IF YOU HAVE A FOREVER BIB THERE IS NO NEED TO REGISTER. YOU ARE ALREADY PRE-REGISTERED EACH MONTH.
RACE STARTS AT 8:00 A.M. THE START LINE CLOSES AT 8:05 A.M.
This is a 2 mile race held the first Saturday of each month. You are running against your handicap, which is computed from your previous results for the last two years.
The first time you run this event, you'll establish a base time for yourself. This base time is used to generate a handicap time. The handicap time is calculated using an algorithm developed by Bob Royse, and it's geared to favor a beginning runner and the slower runners. Click here for an explanation of the handicap algorithm.
Once you have an established handicap, you are racing against your handicap time. The person who improves the most from their handicap time is the winner.
As mentioned before, the handicap does favor a beginning runner or a slower runner who is putting in a lot of quality training time, as it's these types of runners who tend to have significant time improvements running the same course. But the race is also good for established runners and the swift of feet because it gives those runners a good indication of their fitness level. It's the same 2 mile course each month. Thus given similar weather conditions, you have a very good basis to check out your running fitness from month to month.
Awards
At each monthly race, the person who improves the most over their handicap earns a Nielson shirt.
The shirts are generously donated by Michael Schenk of EON Studios, located at 836 N Institute in Colorado Springs (633-7986). Visit EON Studios for all of your screen printing needs. Michael gets his exercise on a bicycle, while his wife Susan does the running in the family.

The Impact Competition is the first nationwide CrossFit and X-Training fundraising event designed to channel the power of fitness into local community change. Gyms, athletes, students, and supporters across the country compete in three arenas—Performance, Participation, and Philanthropy—all while raising funds that stay in their own communities.
During a single week each spring, every participating gym completes the same national WOD, engages members of all ability levels, and rallies supporters to give what they can. Individuals and gyms climb the leaderboard by completing the workout, mobilizing their community, and raising critical dollars for local students, nonprofits, and causes.
This is more than a workout.
It’s a movement of gyms stepping forward together to lift their cities higher.
Every rep matters. Every dollar counts. Every community wins.
Join the Impact Competition and help turn collective effort into real, lasting change.

Training runs organized by the Pikes Peak Road Runners on Tuesday and Thursday mornings in at the Garden of the Gods main parking lot at 6AM, rain or shine, snow or sleet.
Protocol: We split into several groups based on ability. Each group runs together (or at least starts together) at a pace that is generally within the ability of the group members. The group lead can decide the route and any other training features, e.g., intervals, hill repeats, tempo, etc. Workouts last about an hour (give or take a few minutes). Routes vary from workout to workout, and are usually within the confines of the Garden of the Gods Park, although sometimes a group will explore neighborhoods and trails that are adjacent to the park.
Incentives: The beauty of running in the Garden is enough to get those endorphins exploding. The first 25 runners attending 8 or more workouts are given free swag, courtesy of Pikes Peak Marathon, Inc., and its Garden to Peak Challenge race series. Group training with others of similar abilities provides great motivation. Excellent way to start the day off on the right foot (or left foot). Prize drawings at the last workout on June 11.

Master the Journey is a youth mountain bike event focused on supporting the Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) community:
-
Offering a family-friendly mountain bike event to complement existing T1D community support events and promoting a healthy, active lifestyle for the T1D community by encouraging participation in mountain biking and lowering barriers to entry.
-
Reducing financial strain on T1D patients and their families by directing event proceeds to the Children’s Diabetes Foundation Helping Hand Program.
The event will feature U19, U17, and U15 race categories on an approximately 7-mile course. U19 and U17 participants will race 2 laps, while U15 participants will race 1 lap.
A current USA Cycling race license is required for U19 and U17 races. A one-day license can be purchased during registration, or U19 and U17 racers may visit https://usacycling.org/member to explore other licensing options.
-
Have fun, be safe, encourage each other.
-
Helmets are required at all times when riding. This applies to all event attendees.
-
Drugs, alcohol, and tobacco products are strictly prohibited.
-
Race age categories are determined by birth year. Racers can choose to compete in a higher age group if desired, but may not race in a lower age group. (Racing in a higher age group is not recommended. Racers, please consult with your coach if you decide to compete outside of your age group.)
-
Rider starting position for each category will be determined by Colorado High School Cycling League (Colorado League) ranking at the conclusion of the 2025 season, in hierarchical order, starting with varsity. Colorado League riders must register by August 5th, 2026 in order to secure starting position as a function of their 2025 league ranking.
-
Starting position for riders who do not have a 2025 Colorado League ranking and Colorado League riders who register after August 5th, 2026 will be determined by registration order, after assignment of starting positions for riders with a 2025 Colorado League ranking who registered by August 5th, 2026.
-
Riders must stay on marked course. Violations of this rule may lead to disqualification.
-
This is a family-friendly event. Profane, offensive behavior will not be tolerated. Attendees who mistreat others may be asked to leave.
Following the races, a portion of the course will be open for a Fun-Ride for all attendees (pre-registration required).
Why are we focused on T1D?
People with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) cannot live without continuous insulin therapy, delivered via multiple daily injections or insulin pump. Out-of-pocket expenses for these patients and their families create disproportionate financial strain that is over 2 times the national average. According to the Children’s Diabetes Foundation,
-
“Over 40% of Barbara Davis Center patients are uninsured or underinsured.
-
“On average, the first year of care for a newly diagnosed type 1 is $20,000.
-
“Type 1 diabetes is the only disease where patients and caregivers are making life and death insulin dosing decisions, and they are doing it every hour of every day.
-
“Diabetes is expensive. New Onset patients spend about $1,400 on education and appointment fees. Pump Therapy can create better control but can cost up to $1,200 each month. Insulin for children can cost about $300 a month. Testing 6-8 times a day is normal and all those test strips add up to about $300 a month.”
The overall health and quality of life for people with T1D is significantly improved with routine physical activity. Action sports, such as mountain biking, promote healthy living while also imbuing a sense of thrill and excitement for the participants. Master the Journey is focused on raising awareness for the T1D community, introducing both new and experienced riders to youth mountain bike racing, and supporting T1D families in need.

This year will mark our 3rd annual Run For Hope when we remember, honor, and celebrate those who lost their lives to addiction. This year's event is hosted by our Finding Hope and Hope After Loss Support Groups. We currently have over 800 members across the United States who attend these free support groups to seek hope and healing as they navigate loving someone with addiction, as well as find strength through their grief of losing a loved one.
This year’s run will be family focused with our second one-mile memorial walk/run, inflatables, food trucks, and more. This will be an event you and your family will not want to miss! All proceeds from this year’s “Run For Hope” will go to funding our growing Finding Hope and Hope After Loss Support Groups, allowing more families to find healing and hope.

The Human Potential Running Series Presents:
The Stories Trail Runs @ Cheyenne Mountain State Park
The Stories Trail Runs is a unique winter trail running adventure taking place in Colorado Springs, CO, against the breathtaking backdrop of Cheyenne Mountain, and “America’s Mountain,” Pike’s Peak, with sweeping views of the Colorado Front Range below. This event features an amazing community atmosphere, made possible by our main staging area and aid station at the start and finish of each loop. The Stories timed events (15-hr and 6-hr) are unique in that, rather than repeating loops on the same 1-2 mile track, participants will enjoy multiple loops spread out through Cheyenne Mountain State Park. Timed events are also unique in that runners are challenged with running as many miles as they can or want within their allotted time. Our trail 10k, Half Marathon, and 20-Mile round out the weekend as traditional distance options where runners can still enjoy the communal aspect of HPRS while enjoying a fantastic trail race along select trails within the State Park.
