    Race into Summer with =PR= Run & Walk's Youth Running Camp!

    Unleash your inner runner! =PR= Run & Walk - RVA invites young athletes to join our FREE Youth Summer Camp. Inspired by the vision of founding camp coaches Bill Kelly & Rosie Schutte, we're creating a community where everyone can discover the joy of running. This camp is about more than just fitness; it's about building confidence, making friends, and finding the fun in movement.

    Who's Ready to Run? Young runners entering grades 6, 7, 8, or 9 are invited to join the adventure! Please note: Campers should be able to run a continuous mile to fully participate in the training.

    Where's the Starting Line? We'll be based at a local Chesterfield County Middle School Complex, taking advantage of the track, spacious fields, and scenic paved trails of the surrounding neighborhood. *more details can be found below.

    When Does the Fun Begin? Mark your calendars for July 13th-17th, Monday-Friday (weather permitting). Drop-off is from 7:40-7:45 AM, and pick-up is no later than 11:30am.

    What's in Store for You?

    Run, Learn, and Thrive: We'll cover the fundamentals of running, improve your conditioning, and teach you healthy habits for a lifetime of movement.

    Expert Coaches: Our experienced coaches, including local runners and certified professionals, will provide personalized guidance and support in a fun and encouraging atmosphere. You'll be grouped with runners of similar abilities.

    Inspiring Speakers: Hear from experts on a range of topics, from choosing the right running shoes to understanding nutrition for athletes and preventing injuries. We'll also explore the exciting world of high school and college running.

    Community Connection: We're passionate about building a strong and supportive running community. Our camp reflects =PR= Run & Walk's mission to make running accessible and enjoyable for everyone.

    Safety First: We'll have certified medical/CPR/First Aid staff on-site to ensure a safe and healthy environment for all campers.

    How to Join the Fun?

    This amazing camp is FREE! However, registration is required.

    Space is limited to 100 campers, so register early to secure your spot! Note: A waitlist will be available if the camp fills up,

    Location: Our camp will be hosted at a local Chesterfield County Middle School. Location TBA once permit is issued by Parks & Rec 90 days prior to camp. *Registration will open on April 1, 2026.

    Weather Policy: All activities are outdoors. In case of inclement weather, activities will be canceled, and you'll be notified by 7:00 AM that day. Please check your email regularly!

    Important Information for Campers:

    • Campers should be able to run a continuous mile.

    • Please be on time for drop-off and pick-up. Runners not picked up by 11:30 AM may not be able to continue in the program.

    • Respectful behavior and adherence to coaches' instructions are expected.

    Join us for the Maplewood Mile 5K on Oct 3 at 9:00 AM — a scenic, USATF-certified-ish (fun) route through Maplewood Park. Whether you’re chasing a PR or running with the stroller, this mostly-flat course highlights tree-lined paths, a pond turnaround, and a finish on the town green. Every runner gets a finisher medal; top finishers take home awards and local gift certificates. Kids’ Fun Run at 10:15 AM. Proceeds support the Maplewood Urban Tree Fund.

    Lace up and come enjoy a morning of fresh air, community vibes, and scenic trails. The 5K course winds along Maplewood Park’s paved and crushed-gravel paths, showcasing mature maples, a pond, and the town’s historic gazebo. It’s perfect for first-timers, families, and competitive runners alike.

    Race day schedule

    • 7:30 AM — Packet pickup and same-day registration opens (maplewood community center)

    • 8:45 AM — Race briefing & warm-up on the green

    • 9:00 AM — 5K start (chip timing)

    • 10:15 AM — Kids’ Fun Run (100–200m)

    • 10:45 AM — Awards ceremony & post-race snacks

    Free parking at Maplewood High School (shuttle to start). Bike racks available at the start/finish.

    Proceeds benefit the Maplewood Urban Tree Fund to plant and maintain street trees and fund environmental education.

    RACE START TIMES: All race starts at 9am.

    Race Venue: Pocahontas State Park 10301 State Park Rd. Chesterfield, VA 23832

    The race staging area will be located about 1 1/2 miles straight into the park on State Park Rd. Once you pass the entrance parking contact station, you continue straight, following park signs to the pool parking lot/boat launch about 1 1/2 miles down State Park Rd. Start, finish and staging will be located on the large grass field adjacent to the boat launch. All race activities will be located at the black and orange tents on the field

    Parking: The park regular fee is required if you don't have a state park permit. All day parking access is currently $10 per car load on weekends. Although the park accepts cards, cash is the fastest way to move past the contact station.

    Race Day pickup: October 5 Sunday 730-9am at the staging area at Pocahontas State Park.

    Timing: Your race number will have a timing chip on the back. Please do not fold, remove the chip. Race numbers should be attached so numerals are right side up. Your numbers should be visible during the entire event and placement on your shirt is best as this helps with tagging any photos to your result link. If you mist pin on your shorts it needs to be visible from the front.

    Course info:

    With the building of some new hiking trails and a redesign of the course we feel we have a great course waiting for you.

    The new course has a loop course for the 10k and a larger loop for the1/2 marathon. The races will cover the first 10k together. This newer course will give you more picturesque views and a better trail race experience! The newest built trails, on the 1/2 marathon course, are very runnable with good footing most of the way. You will be finishing your last 4+ miles on these beautiful trail (Coop and Trooper Trails).

    On-course aid:

    Water stations will be approximately 3, 6 and 9 miles. Best if you carry your own refillable water pack and fuel, as you will be remote much of the race.

    Bathrooms: There are two indoor bathrooms available near the start/finish. One is located behind the soda machines (on the right side of the main pool lot) and the other near shelter #2 between the lot and the staging area.
