Celebrate National Mental Health Awareness Month by joining Iberia Mental Health Initiative for their annual Bayou Side Run. On Saturday, May 2, 2026, grab your person or persons to be “bayou” side as we race the streets of New Iberia raising mental health awareness and funds for Iberia Mental Health Initiative. Registration will include entry into the 5k or 1-mile run/walk, t-shirt, finisher medal and an experience of a lifetime. Chip timing will be used for the race.

Thank you for choosing to partner with Iberia Mental Health Initiative as we seek to raise mental health awareness in our community.

Registration Fees (Early & Late Fees & dates):

  • Early Registration 5k: $30.00

  • Early Registration 1 Mile Fun Run: $30.00

  • Late Registration is April 12th - May 1st: $35.00

  • Race day registration: 6:30am - 7:30am Onsite Cash Only - $35.00

Team Discount Registration for 10 or More Members

  • Now till April 11th : $20.00 per individual for Early Registration Once 10 have registered (See Below)

  • From April 12th - May 1st : $25.00 per individual for Late Registration Once 10 have registered (See Below)

Create a Run/Walk Team and invite your family and friends to join your team. Once the 10th member registers, the first 9 members will receive a $10 refund on their registration. Then everyone after that will only pay $20 for their registration before April 12th. April 12th - May 1st they will pay $25 for their registration. The team with the largest number of members will win a prize.

Must be Registered by April 10th to be guaranteed a shirt.

  • The Iberia Mental Health Initiative is a coalition of concerned citizens dedicated to identifying and addressing the mental health needs of our community. We are composed of medical and mental health professionals, legal and law enforcement professionals, education personnel, clergy, and suicide awareness advocates, and other community supporters. All proceeds are poured back into the community to help raise awareness for mental health through programs and events.

Inclement Weather Policy

  • No refunds will be given due to inclement weather.

The safety of our athletes and volunteers is our primary concern. In the event of inclement weather, the race will continue under the following circumstances:

  • Rain - the event will NOT be cancelled due to rain alone.

  • Lightning - If lightning is seen or thunder is heard, the event will be postponed for a minimum of 20 minutes until no signs of the storm are present. Participants should seek shelter in their vehicles or a nearby building if available. If lightning continues 20 minutes after the scheduled event start, the race will be subject to cancellation.

    Who We Are: Healthy Kids Running Series is a five (5) week running program in the spring and fall for kids Pre-K through 8th grade. Each HKRS Series takes place once a week and offers age-appropriate running events including the 50 & 75 yard dashes, the 1/4 mile, the 1/2 mile and the 1 mile run. Kids will earn points for each race they complete based on their finish.

    Pricing: The registration fee covers the entire five (5) weeks of the Series which includes race bibs for each week, a runner shirt, a finisher medal and any sponsor giveaways. Registration is non-refundable and non-transferable. Online Early Bird registration increases three weeks prior to the first race event.

    High School: We also welcome our High School runners! Our high school students will be running a 2 mile race.

    Challenger: This Series offers a Challenger Division which is an adaptive 75 yard race for children with disabilities and/or special needs. This allows for parents, siblings, and friends to be on the course with runners to provide support as well as supportive devices such as crutches, braces, wheelchairs, etc. to be used by runners.

    Single Day Racing: Single day race registration opens one hour prior to the start of each race. The registration fee covers one single race to be run on the day of registration. ALL single day registrations should be completed onsite at the race location. Single day racers will have the option to upgrade to the full series (see tab on the left side of the page for instructions). There is a strict no-refund and no-transfer policy.

    Awards: All participants receive a medal on Week 5! Trophies will be awarded to the overall top finishers in each of the divisions listed below (broken out by boys and girls respectively):

    You can help Ghadur Court # 129 Auxiliary of A.E.A.O.N.M.S., Inc. and the City of New Iberia with this great National Community Health Initiative (NCHI). This initiative will continue to reduce the burden of diabetes; diversify efforts and resources to address other health concerns; reduce key health disparities; and improve lives through health promotion, outreach and advocacy. Areas of concern include Cancer, Alzheimers, HIV/AIDS, and of course Diabetes. Proceeds will benefit this cause, so please join us at the Run/Walk and Health Fair or make a donation.     Medals will be given for these age groups: Group 1 - 18 and under, Group 2 - 19-35, Group 3 - 36-50, Group 4 - 51-65, and Group 5 - 66 and older, males and females, first, second and third place finishers.

    Jamieson was a devoted public servant, a proud member of the U.S. Army National Guard, and a dedicated police officer in Cleveland, Ohio. He was known for his selfless service, quiet strength, and unwavering commitment to protecting and uplifting his community. Tragically, Jamieson’s life was cut short in the line of duty on July 4, 2024. His loss has left a profound void in the lives of his family, friends, and all who knew him.

    In the wake of this tragedy, the Jamieson Ritter Foundation was created to carry forward the values Jamieson lived by—service, compassion, and community. The Foundation supports initiatives that reflect Jamieson’s passions, including scholarships, community safety programs, and outreach efforts that build bridges between law enforcement and the communities they serve.

    This race is a tradition, for all endurance fiends! 1/2 mile of swimming in Airport Lake, 20 miles of pedaling on the roads of Lafayette Parish, and 3.1 miles on foot through the grounds of the Lafayette Regional Airport. Whether a beginner doing their first open water triathlon or an experienced triathlete looking for one of the best races on the Gulf Coast, this is the event!!

    Race Distances

    The SWIM -- 1/2 mile or 400 meter beginner

    This is an open water swim. Water temperatures will most likely be in the mid-70F range. Use of wet suits is subject to USA Triathlon rules. The wetsuit call will be made after temperatures are taken race morning. Bring your wetsuit if you are so inclined. There will be boats and other water safety aid available during the swim. You should be able to swim at least ½ mile before deciding to enter this event. All swimmers will be required to wear swim caps, which will be provided.

    THE BIKE -- 20 miles

    New and improved route that avoids the worst sections on Garber Rd. All turns will be marked. Volunteers will be on the course but you are to stay aware of the surroundings and to know the course.

    THE RUN -- 5K (3.1 miles)

    The run will start and finish near the transition area near Airport Lake. The course will include the roads within the Lafayette Regional Airport. The course will be marked and volunteers will be on the course. There will be at least 2 possibilities to pass an aid station on the run. THERE ARE 3 WATER ON THE RUN. AT THE START OF THE RUN, MILE 1, HALF-WAY, MILE 2 AND RIGHT BEFORE THE FINISH. The aid stations will offer water, fluid replacement drinks, and encouragement.

    Relay Teams

    Don't want to do the whole race? Come race as a team! Each team member will compete in one of the individual sports. Relay teams must have a minimum of 2 participants. (Yes, one team member can do 2 sports while the other team member does the other sport.)

    USA Triathlon Sanctioned Race

    This race is being sanctioned with USAT. You, including all relay team members, must be a licensed USA Triathlon member at the time of registration or buy a one-day license to participate for $15.00. you can buy one one our website in the store along with your registration. NOT NECESSARY FOR 5K

    From I-10: Take exit 103A to merge onto I-49 S/US-167 S toward US-90/Morgan City; continue onto US-167 S for 2.5 mi; continue onto US-90 E for 2.6 mi then turn left onto Perimeter Rd. Use 2503 Southeast Evangeline Thruway, Lafayette, LA 70508 for GPS or web search directions.
