Have you ever wondered what is involved in training for a triathlon?

Do I swim or bike or run first?

I’ve seen those athletes going really, really far on TV every year in Hawaii. Is there a shorter distance for me?

How do I train for all 3 disciplines?

Let us answer all your questions!

Training for Triathlon is a quick info session followed by a question and answer session. Attendees will be given information that will assist them in deciding if multisport is a good fit for their lifestyle plus information about the upcoming group training program(s).

Topics discussed will include:

  • Choices for race distances and locations

  • Explanation of a typical training program

  • What to expect out on the course for your first swim, bike and run

  • What it takes to balance self, family, work and triathlon

  • Costs involved with a triathlon, such as equipment, race fees, and coaching

Monday, March 9th session will include info about the Ironman Training Program beginning April 6th

    Raising awareness about T1D

Camp Sweeney's Play for the Day was created 14 years ago by a group of Camp Sweeney camper parents to raise awareness for T1D, or type 1 diabetes. T1D affects 1 in 400 children and can lead to devastating medical complications such as eye disease, kidney disease, and damaged cardiovascular and nervous systems. However, proper diabetes management can greatly reduce the probability of future complications. Camp Sweeney provides these children with a motivating support system to overcome these struggles.

    Raising funds for campers

Half of the children who come to Camp Sweeney need financial aid. Camp Sweeney's Play for the Day helps raise campership dollars to support those families in need. Since its inception, Play for the Day has raised over $1.15 million. This year's goal is our most ambitious yet at $200,000.

    Providing community fellowship

Camp Sweeney's Play for the Day serves as Camp Sweeney's kickstart for the summer. Campers and their families can come out to meet returning and new counselors. The community to gather to have a fun family-friendly morning with activities and fellowship. It is a great way to spend Memorial Day.

Play for the Day will go on RAIN or SHINE!

What is a Splash and Dash?

A Splash and Dash is a fun and fast-growing sport that combines running and swimming. The run can take place on a trail, a road, or a path. Similarly, the swim can take place in any body of water – a pool, a reservoir, or an ocean. This USA Triathlon (USAT) Splash & Dash Youth Aquathlon Series will feature a swim(pool)/run combination.

    Why Participate?

Get a chance to try out the multisport lifestyle. It will really help you to “get your feet wet!” Meet friends and other youth athletes who are interested, and also engage in the multisport lifestyle! Less equipment is required compared to that of a triathlon since a Splash and Dash (aquathlon) does not require a bike.

    What is USAT?

USAT or USA Triathlon is the national governing body for the multi-sport disciplines of triathlon, duathlon, aquathlon, and winter triathlon in the United States.

    What are the Youth distances?

USAT youth events are for ages 6 -15 years. There are two categories, Youth Junior and Youth Senior. See below for age groups and distances for events.

    Youth Jr. Age 6-10 100M Swim – 1K Run

    Youth Sr. Age 11-15 200M Swim – 2K Run

In USAT events, Racing Age is determined by the participants age on December 31st of the current year.

The City of Dallas Splash & Dash series events are all USAT sanctioned events, and the following rules apply:

All youth participating in the Splash & Dash events must obtain a USAT membership, and can be purchased below or WITH registration. If you need a free membership, you will need to contact [email protected]

USAT YOUTH MEMBERSHIP: To obtain the USAT Youth membership, visit the USAT MEMBERSHIP HUB (https://member.usatriathlon.org/login). You will need to create an account and then follow the prompts. It is important to choose the YOUTH membership option, and the membership will be in the name of the child, not the parent.

The event cost is only $10 and all participants must be USA Triathlon members - AND we have a limited amount of FREE Youth annual USAT memberships! If you are not already a youth member, please reach out to [email protected] to get your code!
