About this event
A bit about it.
Set in the stillness of an almost winter night, this event is designed for those who embrace the cold and darkness of the season. The course awaiting you is a flat crushed limestone rails-to-trails that’s wide with about zero technicality to it. With two distances offered a 16 or 31 mile out-and-back each with opportunity to build the Wisconsin Yeti within.As the temps drop and daylight has settled hours ago, it becomes more and more quiet. The points made while you move along are how you handle the internal demands that become louder and louder. You’ve put in a full day and at 6pm you clock in for work.
Conditions.
Mother Nature plays by no rules. Our first year held mild temps and completely clear conditions. No snow nor a flake was in sight. Year 2….. we had snow and lots of it. The trail is not kept up/plowed or cleared for it’s a multiple purpose trail. If there’s snow, you may find some areas are cleared, drifts may be covering it from the open drumlin areas or you’re “post holing”. It can be different all along the way.Bring the toolbelt packed and be ready for it all.
What’s with the name?
On the course you’ll find nothing but the evening closing in and getting ready to tuck the rural community in for the night…..but NOT YOU!! It’s wide open spaces and we wish to protect the space as such. Talking is of course welcome, at an indoor level while outside. It’s a mobile vocal “leave no trace” mentality. The name of the event is just a nod to the night and to be mindful of those who wish to be undisturbed while we are out Type 2 fun in’ it up!
Aid Stations and support.
16 miler-The halfway mark of your distance is also your turn around. Aid will be available here in the form of fluids (water and an electrolyte drink) and light easy snacks.You will be able to leave a drop bag here and they will be returned back to the start/finish area for you. We can’t commit to an exact timeframe and be advised you may have to wait to get them, or you can retrieve them yourself if needed.31 miler-use of the all available above and where your drop bag will be as well. The halfway point of your distance is also the turnaround. A full aid station will be set up with cold and hot drinks and eats. A covered lit up tent with chairs, heaters, volunteers and good energy in the night will fill all cups needed to send you back to the finish line.*****as a reminder a drop bag is only at the 16 mile turn around which you’ll pass twice.Potties of the portable kind will be available at the start and the turnaround of the 31 miler.There is no potty at the 16 mile turnaround.
Rewards.
A token of sorts will given to each participant who crosses the finish line. It will not be a medal.The top 3 female and men in their distance will receive an additional and special gift.
No NO’s by the RD.
No incessant noise makers are allowed; cowbells, whistles, air horns, etc. No alcohol will be served by us.No cups will be provided at the aid stations. Will enforce the “CUPLESS” way to help with environmental impact on our events. Please provide your own vessels for us to refill at aid stations.
REQUIRED GEAR.
Per DNR safety guidelines on this multi-use trail extra gear is required;Participants must wear 2 rear facing and 1 forward facing red light with a blinking option. Along with at least 10 square inches of reflective material also on both the front and back of their outer gear layers.These will be checked during pre race packet pickup.
