Who are we?

Bumrun is a charity that raises awareness of colon cancer screening and prevention.

For 15 years, we have organized 5K walk/run events and raised more than $1.8 million net for various colon cancer charity organizations.

Our funds go toward colon cancer research, enhancing patient support programs for families living with colon cancer, and raising awareness of colon cancer screening and prevention.

Canada has one of the highest colon cancer rates in the world, affecting 1 in 16 Canadians. But 90% of deaths could be prevented with screening, so get ahead of your behind and join us this Bumrun!

Race start times are as follows:

7:40 AM for the Little Bums 500M run

5K runners will be corralled along the street to the east of the start. We request walkers line up at the back and only fast runners (20 minutes or less) line up at the front, with the remainder of the runners falling in between. We will have volunteers helping out with this process.

Warm Up: 7:30 AM at the start line for the Little Bums and 7:50 AM at the start line for the Bumrun 5K.

Water: There is no water on the route. Water will be available at the event site for all participants. If a participant chooses to carry water, please discard empty bottles at the event site. Plastic bottles cannot be thrown out along the route.

Course Time Limit: All participants need to be clear of the course by 9:15 AM as the road closures will be ending. If there are participants still on course, they will be asked to move to the sidewalk for their safety.

First Aid: There will be a medic at the event site at Queen's Park, as well as medics on course on bikes.

Awards: We will start presenting the overall awards for the 5K at 8:40 AM at the Awards Tent.

What the heck is an Ekiden Relay?

An Ekiden relay is a long-distance team running event—and yes, it comes with a legendary accessory: the Tasuki sash. Runners pass it along to symbolize teamwork.

Ekiden Relay's can be any distance, but in our version, each team will collectively cover the distance of a marathon. Don’t panic! You’re sharing the load, so it goes by fast.

    How it works

    Each team has 6 runners:

    • 2 people run 10K

    • 3 people run 5K

    • 1 person runs 7.2K

    Start times

    • 7:00 p.m. – Your two 10K runners start

    • 7:05 p.m. – Your three 5K runners start

    The handoff magic

The first 5K runner on your team to finish will tag your 7.2K runner, who will wear the Tasuki sash (because this runner is most likely your grand finale finisher)!

We’ll provide the sash, plus a decorating station so you can personalize it and make it fabulously team-branded.
