Brevard Zoo's 2nd Annual Wild Turkey Trot 3k is a family-friendly event and great way to kick off your Thanksgiving day!

Runners and walkers of all ages will traverse a course through the Zoo passing animals, their habitats and native plants along the way.

The run is set for a 7:30 a.m. start on November 26, 2026.

Registered runners get 50% off admission on Thanksgiving weekend by showing their race bib at the Zoo's main service window.

Note that Brevard Zoo is closed on Thanksgiving Day.

There is a one hour cut off for all runners. The one hour limit begins from the time you start the race. You will be escorted off the course is you do not finish the course by your designated end time.

A water/Gatorade station is along the route and at our start and finish line areas.

Prizes will be awarded to the Top 10 overall male and female finishers and Top 5 overall male and female for the 11years and under division. ALL finishers will receive a beautiful turkey-themed medal and commemorative running hat.

Race shirts will be available for purchase for $20 each online prior to the event.

A pre-race packet will be sent out one week prior to the event. This will include all details and information you will need for packet pickup and race morning!

This race has limited entries. Register today. This race will sell out. There are no refunds for any reason.

    AVET Project Announces Inaugural “Heroes for Military Kids 5K/Kids Dash” on April 11, 2026: Honoring the Sacrifices of Military Families and Their Children Patrick Space Force Base, FL – The AVET Project, a 501(c)(3) all-volunteer nonprofit organization, is thrilled to host its first-ever Heroes for Military Kids 5K and Kids Dash on April 11, 2026, starting at 8:00 a.m. at The Avenues Viera.

    This heartfelt event honors veterans, active-duty service members, and especially their children, while raising awareness and support for healing military families. These families sacrifice immensely to safeguard our freedoms—now it's our chance to give back, helping them and their loved ones find renewed strength and healing.

    At AVET Project, we always prioritize including the entire family, particularly the kids, because many Americans overlook the profound sacrifices military children make.

    A military child is like a dandelion: tough, bright, and impossible to keep down.

    The dandelion grows anywhere its seeds land—no matter how rocky, dry, or unfamiliar the soil—thanks to its deep, stubborn roots and unbreakable will to bloom. Similarly, military kids are swept along by frequent PCS moves, landing in new bases, schools, and even countries. Yet, they quickly sink roots, open up, and flourish wherever they go. Through countless goodbyes and new hellos, they gain unique superpowers: resilience, adaptability, and a heart that feels at home anywhere in the world. Just like the dandelion, they don't merely survive—they transform every new place into proof of their ability to thrive.

When you sign up for the 5K fundraising event in Melbourne, FL, you’ll get access to a resource hub full of introductory tools to build your mental health resilience and ways you can take action for your mental health. Every participant will receive an event shirt, bib, and medal. Following the race, every participant can participate in on-site wellness training and take-home skills that reduce stress and anxiety and build mental health resiliency.

    This event raises mission-critical funds for To Write Love on Her Arms and helps us continue to connect millions of people to mental health support each year. Together, we can inspire change—for our communities, for our loved ones, and for ourselves. If it’s your first 5K or your thousandth, we believe it’s the small steps we take that create the momentum toward healing and recovery.
