1 Miles 2 Miles 5k Run Trail Walk

On Saturday, May 16, 2026, the Scott Laird Hometown Heroes Scholarship Team will host a special 5K Walk/Run fundraiser in memory of Major Scott Laird, Bronze Star recipient, and Lackawanna Trail alumni.

A proud resident of Dalton, PA, Scott joined the army after graduating high school and served two distinguished tours of duty in Iraq and Kuwait. During his time in the military, Scott dreamed of the day he could return home to NEPA and begin building his future with his family, all the while giving back to the community he loved most.

100% of the proceeds from this 5K will be donated to The Hometown Heroes Scholarship. Established in 2021 in Scott’s honor, this scholarship aids future heroes in the community as they realize their own dreams, whether that be through military service, higher education, or a variety of honorable paths.

Please thank the Fleetville Volunteer Fire Company of Benton Twp for their help in making this event possible.

The goal of the race is to provide a superior event highlighting the local area and in doing so, bring increased exposure and revenue for local businesses.

This would be an 18:00 minute per mile pace for runners and a 28:00 minute per mile pace for walkers. Those participants who are unable to meet the 10:30 AM cutoff time will be directed to turn right onto Olive Street to head back to the stadium and will not be able to complete the full 13.1-mile course and their finish time will not be recorded.

**5k Run Cutoff time - In the interest of safety and to allow city streets to reopen as scheduled, there will be a 50 minute cutoff time for all participants in the 5k.
