8 Miles Run Trail

Welcome to another year of epic fun, memories and vertical, with the Hahns Peak Hill Climb. This is an 8 mile out and back trail run that starts at the Quarry Lot (FS550 + HWY 129) north of Hahns Peak Village, CO. The EPIC course runs 4 miles up to the top of Hahns Peak and the fire lookout tower built in 1912. The final push to the summit is dominated by a talus slope. Racers will turnaround at the tower, following the trail 4 miles back down to the finish line.

This trail race is an event that started in 2017 at the base of Hahns Peak in North Routt County. Running this course started with a few hardcore North Routt locals meeting at the beautiful Cabins at Historic Columbine every 4th of July. From there, they would race to the summit and fire outlook of Hahns Peak, once an active volcano with an elevation of 10,839 & 360 degree panoramic views like no other. Now it’s time to share this amazing course with all of you!

Proceeds from this race are donated to the Steamboat Springs High School Track & Field and Cross Country programs.

Two start times/waves. The main event and race will kick off at 8:30am. For those that may need a bit more time to reach the summit and return the the start/finish line for festivities, we are providing an earlier wave start of 7:30am. PLEASE NOTE: The participant must request this earlier start wave in advance by contacting Missy Amato at mkamato010@gmail.com or 815-979-3836. The main event starts at 8:30am. If athletes start at 7:30am, the volunteers will not all be in place along the course yet. So racers will need to carry their own food/water and follow course markings and signage. Racers that start at 7:30am will not be eligible for category prizes, but will still be entered in the raffle drawing.

Turnaround Time/Cutoff on Course - In order to ensure the safety of our racers and volunteers on the course, we will have a time cutoff of 10:00am at the intersection, where the single track starts and before the final push to the summit. This should give plenty of time for all racers to reach that point. After 10:00am, the athlete may choose to continue to the summit unsupported (unofficial) and with the knowledge that the summit volunteers will be clearing the course soon thereafter or racers can turnaround there and make their way back to the finish line for the raffle drawing and festivities. The course and trail is open to the public, so certainly continuing on is an option for racers to continue unsupported. However, if a participant requires assistance down from the mountain, the intersection at the single track is the last point where a 4-wheeler can give them a ride down.

Course Description:

The Hahns Peak Hill Climb is an 8 mile out and back trail run that starts at the Quarry Lot (FS550 + HWY 129) north of Hahns Peak Village, CO. The course runs 4 miles up to the top of Hahns Peak and the fire lookout tower built in 1912. The final push to the summit is dominated by a loose rock and talus slope. Chutes will be marked to the summit to ensure a safe ascent and descent. Safety on this slippery slope is essential so please use caution and stay on the marked trail at all times. Racers will turnaround at the tower, following the trail 4 miles back down to the finish line.

The trail is 75% single track, 99% trail, has 2,200 ft. of elevation gain. It is a mix of jeep road, single track and talus slope. This is a challenge course that is not for the faint of heart! Don’t forget to pose for your “jump shot” at the top of Hahns Peak, and keep an eye out for the North Routt Yeti, who some locals swear is lurking in the woods!

Hello Steamboat Springs Track and Field community. We are so excited for our Youth Track and Field camp to return this summer. . Camp will be Monday - Thursday, starting June 8th from 9:00am - 11:00am at Gardner Stadium (45 Maple Street). A fun Track & Field meet will be held Thursday, June 11th 9-11:30AM, so that friends and family members can watch the athletes shine.

This camp will introduce kids to Track and Field events. Kids can run, jump, & throw....while having an action packed week of pure fun and expert coaching. We will work on team relays, starting blocks (even for the littles), high jump, hurdles, long jump, and a modified throws event. Our amazing SSHS Track and Field/Cross Country athletes and coaches will help to coach and mentor the young athletes at camp. The camp will consist of two groups. K-5th grade will be broken into appropriate age based groups, to maximize their fun and learning. The middle school group will be incoming 6-9th graders. This group will work on specific techniques for events, but in a fun environment. Each day the athletes will get to watch the high school athletes (and some of our returning college athletes) provide demonstrations of their own events, such as Pole Vault, High Jump, Shot Put, Hurdles and more.

For athletes who pre-register by Monday, May 18th, we will offer a camp t-shirt with your preferred size. After that date, we will have a some extras (not necessarily the correct size) to share. Athletes will also receive awards during the Thursday meet and snacks during camp.

Donation to Ukraine Youth Camps: As with last year, at least $5.00 of each registration will be donated to help provide youth camps in Ukraine this summer, where many children have lost homes, family and the opportunity to for many sporting activities. Our camp director, Lisa Renee, and her husband Doug have traveled to Ukraine seven different times since the full scale invasion. And both Lisa Renee and Coach Alexandra plan to travel to Ukraine in July, introducing Track and Field to the athletes there. It will be an honor to make a donation in the name of Steamboat Springs Youth Track and Field and each one of our athletes here. Additionally, our coaches and staff have a heart for helping any young Steamboat athletes attend camp, if finances would prevent them from attending.
