Join us and celebrate Ostomy Awareness Day and the 12th Annual Run For Resilience Ostomy 5k Run/Walk on Saturday, October 4th, 2025!

All proceeds will benefit the United Ostomy Association of America (UOAA) a 501 3(c) non-profit charity that helps patients living with an ostomy or continent diversion through support, education and advocacy. For more information regarding ostomies visit UOAA's website at www.ostomy.org.

Prizes will be awarded to the top Male and top Female Overall Finishers, top M/F in each age group, as well as to the top Male and Female Ostomates.

OPTIONAL OSTOMY POUCH

Race registration bags will have typical race/sponsor promotional items, ostomy education materials, and most importantly an ostomy pouch provided by one or more of our sponsors. We encourage non-ostomate participants to put on a pouch for the race to improve awareness and empathy for the challenges faced by people living with ostomies.

CREATE OR JOIN A RACE GROUP/TEAM!

Once you’ve registered you have the option to CREATE a new RACE GROUP/TEAM or to JOIN one that’s already been established. This is a great way to get others in your community to Register to Participate in the Run and compete against each other. Invite family, friends, co-workers to Register, pick to be on your Race Group/Team (or start their own), order their T-Shirt & Bib and celebrate the day with you! (Please note this is NOT a Team Fundraiser. To set up a Personal or Team Fundraiser, please go to the DONATE button.)

FUNDRAISING

Raise $150 or more and your Registration Fee will be refunded!

Fundraising is an important aspect of our Run for Resilience Ostomy 5K. Funds raised help UOAA continue to provide resources, educational materials, advocacy and support to the ostomy and continent diversion community.

We invite you to set up your own Personal or Team Fundraiser when registering to participate in the event, or through our DONATE button at the top of this page. You can create a unique Fundraiser Name and URL address, personalize your fundraising message, and direct your friends and family to your page to join your team or sponsor you in your fundraising goal.

    Come join us for our Youth Run Form Clinic on Friday, June 5, 2026 from 6:30-7:30pm at the Mills Park Middle School track & field in Cary!

    This 1-hour clinic is focused on teaching young runners ages 9–13 how to improve their running form, which is key to running efficiently and preventing injury. Along with run form, participants will learn essential dynamic warm-up drills and cool-down stretches to support safe and effective training—whether they’re just starting out or already logging miles.

    Led by a positive, experienced coach (RRCA and USATF certified), the clinic combines fun technique work and drills designed to help runners move with confidence and efficiency.

    Open to ages 9-13. Participants should be able to comfortably run for at least 15 minutes without stopping, (any pace).

    This clinic is a great opportunity for young runners to build strong running habits, boost performance, and reduce injury.

    Cost of the clinic is $25. No refund and no credit if you drop from the race after registering.

    Cost includes: participation in the 1-hour run form clinic

    Clinic is capped at 20 participants.

    Coach Holly Kane will coach this event.

Your participation helps impact the Durham community and beyond through our partnerships with Special Olympics, Boys & Girls Home of NC, backpacks for Durham middle and elementary students, college scholarships for Durham high school seniors, and The Civitan International Research Foundation at the University of Alabama Birmingham just to name a few.

    Race Description/Details*:

    The race will begin at Herndon Park in Durham. Runners and walkers will run an out-and-back on the American Tobacco Trail and finish at the park for refreshments and awards!

    Parking is located at Herndon Park, 511 Scott King Road in Durham. Follow our signs to the starting line.

    All funds support continued outreach and education statewide on the importance of organ, tissue, and eye donation.

    Registration Fees/Dates/Categories:

    5K Run/Walk/Roll: $35.00 per person. Race registration includes a t-shirt, a bib with a timing chip, and refreshments after the event.

    1-mile fun run: $20.00 per person. The 1 Mile Fun Run includes a bib and the post-race party!

    Sleep in Superhero: $25.00 per person. Can't run or just don't want to get up early? Register as a Sleep In Superhero and we'll send you a race t-shirt!

    Every year Amberly hosts a race through our beautiful neighborhood to raise money to support a local nonprofit organization that serves our community selected by the Amberly Community Service Club. This year they chose Special Olympics North Carolina! PLUS because we're racing on Halloween we're giving away some great prizes for Best Costume and Best Family Costume!

    Support Special Olympics North Carolina today and give the power of sport to an athlete.

    Eunice Kennedy Shriver founded Special Olympics with a vision that individuals with intellectual disabilities were far more capable in sports and physical activity than many experts believed possible. Athletes in North Carolina are never charged to participate due to the generous support from individuals, businesses, foundations, and civic groups helps fund the training facilities, equipment, transportation, and coaches key to every athlete’s experiences.

    Their Mission: To provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.

    All races will have a mass start at 9:00 AM for the Fun Mile and 9:15 for the 3 Mile / 5 Mile and the course closes for all races at 10:45 AM (In-person Race Day Schedule).
