Honoring a Legacy of Love and Giving

Since her passing in July 2015, just shy of her 90th birthday, this event has served as a heartfelt tribute to her compassionate spirit. Launched in August 2016, the Ernestine Jones Memorial 5K has grown into more than just a race—it is a cherished tradition that brings our community together in celebration, remembrance, and support.

A Community United

Ernestine lived by the principle of open-hearted generosity, always ready to lend a hand, believing that small acts of kindness create ripples that return when most needed. This event carries that spirit forward, offering a space to give back, foster fellowship, and strengthen the bonds that uplift our community. Join Us in 2026

Be a part of the Ernestine Jones Memorial Annual 5K Walk/Run as we celebrate her 101st birthday and continue the legacy she left behind. Whether you're running, walking, or cheering from the sidelines, your presence honors her memory and supports a cause that truly makes a difference.

Let’s come together in 2026 to celebrate kindness, community, and the joy of giving back.

On Saturday, October 10, 2026, running enthusiasts from across the Mid-South and beyond are invited to “Mississippi’s Front Porch” to participate in Hernando’s 17th Annual Water Tower 10K & Half Marathon road race. This beloved event highlights the charm of Hernando’s historic districts and one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks, the Hernando Water Tower.

Following the successful addition of the Half Marathon distance in 2025, runners will enjoy an extended course that not only tours Hernando’s historic neighborhoods but also showcases the scenic areas surrounding the city.

The Half Marathon will begin at 8:00 a.m., followed by the 10K race starting five minutes later. Both races will begin in the heart of the city at Hernando’s historic Town Square, featuring routes that wind through picturesque, tree lined streets in the shadow of the iconic Hernando Water Tower. Built in 1925, the tower is proudly designated as an official Mississippi Landmark and serves as a centerpiece of the race experience.

For safety and operational purposes, the course will close at 12:00 p.m. Any runner remaining on the Half Marathon course after this time must follow all state and local traffic laws and will be proceeding at their own risk. Additionally, all participants must reach the 10 mile marker by 11:00 a.m. Runners who remain on the course after this cutoff time will also be proceeding at their own risk. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in helping keep race day safe and enjoyable for everyone.

Race proceeds benefit Hernando Excel By 5’s Dolly Parton Imagination Library, which supports early childhood literacy by ensuring young children have access to age appropriate books. Every enrolled child, from one month old through age five, receives one free book each month until their fifth birthday, helping build a strong foundation for lifelong learning.

You can help Noah's legacy live on as a sponsor, skater, runner, walker, or donor. However you choose to participate, we're glad you're a part of Noah's Gift 5K.

Noah's Gift is dedicated to bringing joy into the lives of young people, as Noah brought joy to the lives of so many. Noah's Gift was created to inspire and reward deserving young people with the gift of an extraordinary experience that was of interest to 16-year-old Noah Costa at the time of his death. His interests were as wide-ranging and fun as his personality: playing hockey, traveling, hiking, water sports, skydiving, and much more. Noah's Gift makes grants to deserving teenagers to pursue extraordinary experiences. These grants are made possible through sponsors and participants of our annual fundraiser, Noah's Gift 5K Run-Walk-Skate held in Noah's memory.

This year Noah's Gift Memorial 5K Run Walk Skate will be in person and virtual! The in person race will be in Hernando, MS - participants may choose to run, walk, or roller blade the 5K! For safety, skaters will start at 7:55am, with runners/walkers following at 8:00am. After the race, stick around for food, fun, and games on the Maddox Foundation lawn! More information to be announced soon - follow us on Facebook for up-to-the-minute updates!

The virtual race can be completed using the RaceJoy App (click here). You can automatically upload your results when you finish the distance or manually post your results. Virtual participants not using the app will be on the honor system. They can manually update their time and receive a shirt. Be sure to share photos of your course, and running companions; two and four legs. See "How to upload your photos" (click here).
