Biking with Beanzie (BWB) is a recreational ride presented by Kiwanis Club of Kishwaukee-DeKalb (IL) and sponsored by numerous donors. As a Beanzie rider, you will be investing in the DeKalb County community. BWB is self-paced event that promotes fitness and family fun. Profits from this ride go to support the Kishwaukee Bike Pathway projects and numerouse charitable organizations in DeKalb County. BWB partners with the Live Healthy DeKalb County initiative to help promote a healthier lifestyle within DeKalb County.
The terrain is primarily flat rural roads with some rolling terrain. All roads are well-pavd, lightly traveled and posted with signs containing ride information and bits of Beanzie humor.
Event details and schedule
Sunday July 12, 2026
Starting location is The DeKalb Sports and Recreation Center, 1765 South Fourth Street, DeKalb, IL 60115.
Start time is 6:30am to 9:30am. Check in to register at the Rec Center. All riders must be out by 10:00am and finished with the ride and back at the Rec Center by 3:30pm.
Riders will have a choice of three routes: a 20 mile route, a 42 mile route, and a 63 mile route (metric 100). Route maps and CUE sheets will be available on the website page, two days prior to the event.
If there is questionable weather, please check with the Registration/Check-in by 6:15am for updates before you leave the Rec center. You can also call the Beanzie Central phone number listed on the CUE Sheets. Safety first.
Food and water is provided at rest stops on all the routes. Hydration options and individually packed snacks will be provided at the rest stops.
Friendly SAG drivers are knowledgeable about the routes and bicycling.
Showers are available for use at the end of the ride within the Rec Center.
All riders are strongly encouraged to wear helmets and follow the rules of the road. Please ride single-file to the right because there will be light traffic on the roads.

Participation requires an American Bicycle Racing (ABR) membership (annual or single-day). Purchase and sign the waiver here:

Choose between a Time Trial (TT) Bike or Road Bike for all categories.

Road Bike Definition:
-
Drop or straight handlebars permitted.
-
No tri-bars, clip-on bars, or Spinaci bars allowed.
-
No disc wheels; both wheels must have at least 12 spokes.

Maximum rim depth: 90mm.
-
Purpose: Encourages broader participation by leveling the playing field for racers without TT bikes. If your bike qualifies for a road race or criterium, it’s eligible here.

Parking: After checking in, please do not park around Lions Park. Please park on Maple Park Road, west of W County Line Road.

Course Description:

Start line: Start line is on Washington Street in between Kane St. and Maiden Lane, on the north side of Lions Park. Course starts heading east on Washington St. and turns left (north) on Broadway St. Follow Broadway as it curves right (east) and turns into Thatcher. Follow Thatcher as it bends back north to Beith Road. Turn right on Beith Road and proceed approximately .8 miles to turnaround. Turnaround and reverse course to finish which is on Thatcher, approximately .4 miles before the start line.

Length: 7.36 miles, flat, fast “S” shaped course with a couple gentle bends.
