    Fill the Shoes is proud to present the 14th annual "Fill the Shoes" 5K in memory of Jack. T. Farrar Jr., a long time Hayfield Farm resident who passed away in November, 2005 just 3 months after a diagnosis of stage 4 pancreatic cancer.

    This community race is dedicated to Jack and all people affected by pancreatic cancer. Net proceeds of this event will go directly to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (www.pancan.org) to support them in their mission to "advance research, support patients and create hope for those affected by pancreatic cancer".

    Event details and schedule

    About This Event:

    Come support your community and a very worthy cause by running or walking in the 13th annual 5K to fight pancreatic cancer.

    • When. Saturday, November 7th, 2026. 8:00 AM - 10:30 AM.

    • Where. Hayfield Park, 7611 Hayfield Rd, Alexandria, VA 22315. (Keep reading for detailed parking information & see map on www.FilltheShoes.org.)

    • Registration. On-line registration is open until 10 pm on Thursday November 5th. Registration is $30 through October 12th and $35 through November 5th. You may register at packet pickup on November 6th for $40 (cash or check only). You may also register at the race site the morning of November 7th for $40 (cash or check only).

    • Course. The course is 3 looper starting and ending in Hayfield Park, run clock-wise. For a detailed course map please refer to our website www.filltheshoes.org

    • Timing and Scoring. Our good friends at Reston Road Runners will provide accurate timing and scoring for all event participants. All race times and results will be available on site after the event and we will make them available on our website within 24hrs.

    • Awards and Extras. ALL race participants will be treated to a custom race shirt, goodies from our sponsors, and a great post-race party with food and raffle prizes. In addition, we award the top 3 overall male and female winners AND the top 3 male and female in each of the following age groups (Under 10, 10-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70 & Over).

    • Packet Pickup. Packet pickup will be Friday, November 6th from 12-6:00pm at Fill the Shoes HQ (7628 Hayfield Rd, Alexandria, VA 22315), or you maye pick up your packet on race day in Hayfield Park from 6:45am-7:30am.

    • Event Parking. There is parking available on the streets of Hayfield Farm, with the exception of Bing Ct between Hayfield Rd and Broadmoor St/Berwick Ct. Please be respectful of our Hayfield neighbors!

    There is additional parking in the lot of the shopping center at corner of Hayfield and Telegraph Roads, and at Hayfield Elementary School (both are a short walk to the park).

    The Mount Vernon Park (MVP) race is BACK!. It is the last race of our season and a great way to kick off the school year. The swim will be in the MVP pool followed by a double out and back bike course. The run course is a u-shaped out and back with a bit of an incline on the out part.

    11th Annual George Washington Patriot Run

    5K & 10-Miler

    Our race features a 10-Miler and 5K course that welcomes all runners to participate in person!

    The George Washington Memorial Parkway (GWMP) is a 25-mile-long stretch of highway that runs along the south bank of the Potomac River from Mount Vernon, VA, northwest to McLean, VA. It is one of the most beautiful and iconic stretches of highway in the nation. The racecourse uses both lanes of a 5-mile section of the GWMP between the GW Parkway Circle and W. Boulevard Drive. George Washington's Mount Vernon is grateful to the National Park Service for permitting the Patriot Run to use the GWMP.

    All participants will receive a commemorative George Washington Patriot Run technical t-shirt and a spectacular finisher medal engraved with George Washington's bust. Awards will be presented to 1st place overall, by age division, and for the Military/First Responder categories.

    The Finish Festival will offer music, food and beverage concessions, and a free beer for each runner. Thank you for choosing to run with us. We hope you enjoy the race!

    *Online registration will remain open until 7:00 am on Race Day.

    *Free round-trip shuttle service will be available between Alexandria, VA, and Mount Vernon on race morning. See the FAQ for more details.

    *A limited number of reserved parking spots at George Washington's Mount Vernon will be available for purchase during registration. *There is no additional on-site parking available without purchasing a Parking Pass.

    *Kiss n Ride will open at 5:00 am at the Mount Vernon Post Office. This location is drop-and-go only.

    *No in-person registration or in-person payment will be accepted at packet pick-up. Participants must register and pay online.

    Registration fees

    All active-duty public safety personnel, including police, fire, EMTs, and members of the military (including veterans), receive a $5.00 discount as George Washington's Mount Vernon's token of appreciation.

    In-Person 5K:

    Register February 16 - March 31: $42.00

    Register April 1 - August 14: $52.00

    Register August 15 - September 13: $62.00

    In-Person 10-Miler:

    Register February 16 - March 31: $65.00

    Register April 1 - August 14: $72.00

    In-person registration includes the chance to run along the beautiful George Washington Memorial Parkway, plus access to the Finish Festival featuring music, food, and beverage concessions, and complimentary bananas, bottled water, and a beer for each runner (21+). Runners also receive free admission to George Washington’s Mount Vernon.

    All participants are invited to tour the interior of George Washington’s Mansion after completing the race. Show your race bib for entry into the Mansion line on the Bowling Green.

    The Eagle 5000 Turkey Trot is a new race that puts a twist on the traditional Thanksgiving turkey trot. Entrants will run a full 5k on the track with athletes racing in heats based on their predicted finishing times.

    This event will be held on November 21st, 2026 on the track at Thomas Edison High School in Alexandria, VA. The race is in-person, rain or shine.

    This event is all about bringing our community together to help raise money for the Thomas Edison Cross Country and Track and Field programs. Register yourself and bring along your family, friends, and communities to participate in our track turkey trot!

    Packet Pickup

    Parking will be onsite and Edison High School. However, parking is limited, so please plan to arrive early to get a spot.
