What is a Triathlon? A triathlon is a continuous activity that starts with swimming, followed by a bike ride and a run. The swimming portion will be conducted in a 25-meter lap swimming pool. The bike and run will be outside. Our goal is to provide this fun physical activity for kids up to 15 years of age. Each participant will receive a T-shirt and a finisher’s gift. Awards will be given to the top three participants in each age group and the top three relay teams.

Whether you are an elite athlete or a first-time participant, our event offers a scenic course featuring a Lake Erie swim, a fast closed-to-traffic bike course on the Memorial Shoreway, and a run through one of the city's most iconic lakefront parks. With triathlon, duathlon, and aquabike racing categories—including Super Sprint, Sprint, and Olympic distances—Tri CLE provides a world-class racing experience in the heart of The Land.

We offer a variety of distances and relay options to ensure every athlete finds their perfect challenge. All events are USA Triathlon (USAT) sanctioned, providing a competitive and safe environment for all participants.

The Swim: Athletes begin with a beach start at Edgewater Park, swimming in the refreshing waters of Lake Erie. The swim is well-marked with professional buoys and supported by a comprehensive water safety team.

The Bike: Our standout feature is the closed-to-traffic bike course on the Memorial Shoreway.Participants enjoy a ride with zero vehicular traffic, offering unparalleled views of the Cleveland skyline and downtown neighborhoods.

The Run: The final leg takes place on the multipurpose paths of Edgewater Park and the Edgewater Neighborhood. This scenic course keeps runners close to the lake breeze and the cheering crowds, finishing at our high-energy festival area.

Join us for the 28th Anniversary of the Great Pumpkin Race!
Join us for the 28th Anniversary Great Pumpkin Race on Saturday, October 31 at the Stark County Board of Developmental Disabilities, 2950 Whipple Ave NW, Canton, OH 44708.
Our race headquarters offers inside holding areas and restroom facilities. Wheelchairs, strollers and dogs are welcome at our family friendly, inclusive event. In addition to the road events, we have pumpkin cart racing, pumpkin decorating and the chance to Guess the Weight of the Giant Pumpkin!
This is an In-Person Race!
At this time we do not offer a virtual race option.
Want to make the entire weekend spooky fun?
We are partnering with Run To You Racing The Haunted Forest Marathon, which is run Sunday, Oct. 25 in Canal Fulton. Those who complete BOTH the Great Pumpkin 4 Miler AND ANY of the Haunted Forest distances will receive a special 9 LIVES CHALLENGE MEDAL!

100 Yard Lil' Pumpkin Dash (Ages 7 & Under) begins at 8:15 am. Finisher medals for the 100 Yard finishers. This is a untimed event!
1 Mile Fun Run/Walk begins at 9:00 am. Finisher medals given for the 1 mile finishers. This is a untimed event and not part of the Challenge Series event!
4 Mile Run/Walk also begins at 9:00 am. This is a timed event and qualifies for the Challenger Series.

Largest Team category...prizes for the top team with the most registrants combined in the Lil Pumpkin Dash, 1 Miler Fun Run/Walk and the 4 Miler.
Long-Sleeve Tee for all registrants. Discount is available for a No Shirt option of $8 up to Race Day! Shirt only option is also available for those who want to support our event, however this option will be disabled on 10/3/25.
Special Olympians...whether they are past, present or potential athletes... all with developmental disabilities are encouraged to join us and can register at the Special Olympian pricing. Buddies or caregivers are welcome to walk along at no cost (no race number, shirt or finisher medal).
Cause/Donation
Since our race began in 1998, we have raised thousands of dollars to support Special Olympic athletes in the Stark County area. More than 500 people with developmental disabilities living in Stark County participate in Special Olympics programs. The year around programs include: basketball, flag football, power lifting, softball, swimming, corn hole and track & field. Proceeds from the Annual Great Pumpkin Race help purchase uniforms, equipment, field/venue rental and much more for the athletes. Special Olympics Ohio - Stark DD is a 501c3 organization. All funds raised stay LOCAL to support local athletes. Donations can be made through the registration process.

This is our new registration site to sign up for the Lake Medina Open Water Swim Group. This will be our 12th year !
You must sign up each year to be a member of this group.
Once you have sign up we will send to you a copy of the require group permit and official swim cap. The Official swim cap will be green this year!
You must be at least 18 years old to participate in this swim group.
The swim season for 2026 will be from May 1st to October 31, 2026.
We would like to thank the Medina Co Park system for their continued support of our group for the last 11 years.
The cost for the yearly membership is $15. For this nominal price you will be provided the approved swim cap and permit for the season.
We will also be accepting donations on this site or you can PayPal or Venmo to [email protected]
Your donations will be given to the park system and the park officers in way of donations
We can always use volunteer support to manage this group which was first formed in 2015
