    The 26th Great Wall of China Marathon 2027: A Unique Experience in Northwest Beijing

    Have you ever run the toughest marathon in China? Yes, that is the Great Wall of China Marathon on May 1st, 2027, in northwest Beijing! The Great Wall of China Marathon offers a truly unique and challenging experience for runners of all ages and abilities. With its breathtaking scenery and historical significance, this marathon is a must-do for any running enthusiast.

    A Marathon for All Ages

    Have you ever run the Great Wall of China Marathon where you can see quite a number of runners over 60s, 70s, and 80s? At the 25th Great Wall of China Marathon on May 1st,2026 in Beijing,the eldest runner is 84 years old.Yes, the Great Wall of China Marathon has already developed a professional care service for aged runners, making it inclusive for all. The 34th total edition of this marathon on May 1st,2027, promises to be a memorable event for participants of all ages.

    A Time Limit Challenge

    Have you ever run the Great Wall of China Marathon where the time limit is 10 hours? Yes, the Great Wall of China Marathon, held on May 1st in the Spring and the last Sunday of October in Autumn, challenges runners to finish within a set time frame. The average No.1 male and female marathon runner will take about 6 and 7 hours, respectively, to complete the race.

    Event details and schedule

    1. Event Schedule:

    Registered participants can collect their race bags from 9AM to 6PM on April 30, 2027, at the 4-star Mercure Hotel Beijing Zhongguancun. Limousine buses will depart from the official hotel at 5:30AM on Saturday May 1st, 2027, transporting all registered runners and spectators to the Great Wall. The buses are expected to arrive at the Great Wall around 7AM, where participants can store their belongings, change clothes, warm up, and prepare for the Great Wall of China Marathon 2027, which will commence at 8AM on May 1st, 2027. After the race, the buses will transport all runners and spectators back to the official hotel.

    2.How to choose your distance to run?

    When deciding on the distance to run, it is important to consider your normal marathon time.

    1)Marathon:

    For instance, if you typically finish a marathon in 4 hours, it may take you 7 hours or more to complete. The fastest runners usually finish the marathon in over 5 hours, with an estimated normal marathon time of around 2 hours and 30 minutes to 3 hours. The average finishing time for a marathon is 7 hours and 30 minutes.

    2)Half marathon:

    If your normal marathon time exceeds 6 hours, it is recommended to opt for a half marathon instead, where the average finishing time is around 4 hours.

    3)10K and 5K:

    For 10K races, the average time is 2 hours and 30 minutes, while 5K races have an average finishing time of 1 hour and 20 minutes.

    Regardless of the distance chosen, there is a 10-hour time limit for all runners. Some participants may not be concerned with their finishing time and prefer to run at their own pace, and taking beautiful photos along the way.

    3.Course:

    In the past 25 years,we have already used the 6 different sections of the Great Wall for the Great Wall of China Marathon,we still use the Great Wall that we used at the Great Wall of China Marathon 2018-Autumn,and Here is the basic information we released in 2025 that you need to know and prepare for the Great Wall of China Marathon 2027.

    4.Option 3:

    If you would like to register for the race itself together with the 3-night 4-star hotel from April 29 to May 2nd(check out before 2pm),and airport pick up included,please go to the Additional Purchases page and choose Option 3,it is just equivalent to around 248USD.

    If for any reason that you fail to come to the race,please let us know,we would keep your entry to the following races at the Great Wall of China Marathon 2027-Autumn or the Great Wall of China Marathon in 2028.Your entry would be valid forever until you come back to the race finally.Thank you very much.

    The entity responsible for organizing the Great Wall of China Marathon (GWCM) on May 1 each year is also the organizer of the Roof of the World Marathon (ROWM). For further information regarding the Roof of the World Marathon 2027, please visit: http://www.greatwallmarathon.com.cn/

    Event details and schedule

    The date for the marathon race is set for May 8, 2027, while the half marathon and 10K race will take place on May 6, 2027. The two locations are distinct within the vast region of Tibet. If you wish to participate in the half marathon,10K on May 8, 2027, the registration fee will be identical to that of the marathon runners.

    The Roof of the World Marathon (ROWM) is a unique and challenging race held in Tibet, China, organized by the Great Wall of China Marathon (GWCM) Organizing Committee. It is renowned as the highest elevation marathon in the world, with a starting point at over 5,213 meters (17,103 feet) above sea level, surpassing the altitude of Mount Everest Base Camp. The event offers a full marathon, half marathon,and 10K, with the 2026 edition scheduled for May 2–9, including race days on May 6 (10K) and May 8 (Lonely Yak Half Marathon and Full Marathon).

    • Tour the Jorkhang Temple. Spend the rest of the day at your leisure. Meals Included

    • Tour Nobulingka and the Tibet Museum. Meals included.

    • It's race day!!!! We head out to the 10K Starting line in Yanghu. After the race say goodbye to those staying for the Roof of the World Marathon before heading back to Lhasa. Meals Included

    • Spend the day at your leisure and get ready for your evening flight back to Beijing or other city in China.
