    2026 Youth Grand Prix Rules

There is no automatic roll over on the Youth Grand Prix sign up from the 2025 seasons. You must sign up again on the RunSignUp 2026 website. YOU MUST SIGN UP FOR THE Youth Grand Prix BEFORE THE FIRST RACE YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE SCORED.

Example IF you want to be scored in the Resolution 5k & 1 Mile 2026, then your child needs to be signed up for Youth Grand Prix for 2026. Signing up for the race in 2025 does not place your child in the Youth Grand Prix for 2026. December 31st ends the previous year membership for New Energy AND Youth Grand Prix.

    Eligibility Requirements:

A runner must be a Tidewater Striders Member in good standing at the time of Youth Grand Prix sign up and at the conclusion of the year. If participants' membership lapse, they will not be scored for any races during that time period and will be removed from the YGP until membership is renewed.

A runner must be between 6 and 16 years of age on July 1st of that YGP season. A runner must complete a minimum five (5) events in the YGP schedule. (You do not need to score points in five (5) races but just complete five (5) races.)

Volunteering (3) times is a requirement. Volunteer service must be provided at a Tidewater Striders Event prior to the end of the YGP season. (Volunteering at the last race of the YGP season will count, i.e. helping at water stops, handing out medals & T-shirts, and hospitality).

To clarify, if you want to participate in the 5k and 1-mile YGP you must run a minimum of 5 (5k or 1-mile races). Example you could run all 5ks, all 1 mile or a combo of both as long as complete the minimum races.

You must complete the Youth Grand Prix event in the time allotted for the event in order to earn points. For example, if it is a 5k and the course limit is 1 hour you finish that event in 1 hour.

Participation in the New Energy Youth group is not a requirement for YGP.

    Events:

All Tidewater Striders Youth Grand Prix races will be 5k and one-mile events for the YGP. The schedule will be posted online under Grand Prix 2026 Schedule.

    YGP Age Groups:

    Male: 6, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14 and 15-16

    Female: 6, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14 and 15-16

Your YGP age group is determined by your age on July 1st. (Examples below)1. If a runner’s birthday is 4/15/2009, which makes their age 15 on 7/1/2024, then their YGP age group is 15-16 for all events in 2024 YGP series. 2. If a runner’s birthday is 8/15/2009, which makes their age 14 on 7/1/2024, then their YGP age group is 13-14 for all events in 2024 YGP series.

    Awards and Points:

End of year awards will be presented at the annual awards banquet or at a YGP Awards Party to the top three finishers in each age group based on total points accumulated. Points are awarded for placing first through fifth (10, 8, 6, 4, 2) in your Youth Grand Prix age group. All finishers not in the top 5 will score 1 point. If runner runs both the 5k and 1Mile at an event Only one distance will be scored for the race. If you participate in the Grand Prix too you can only receive the Youth Grand Prix or the Grand Prix Award in a Year. Volunteering (3) times is a requirement. Volunteer service must be provided at a Tidewater Striders Event prior to the end of the YGP season. (Volunteering at the last race of the YGP season will count, i.e. helping at the Turkey Trot water stops). Races only count from date of YGP sign up and forward. No back dating of points from prior events will occur, unless an omission or miscalculation of an eligible runner.

Updated YGP Standings will be posted within one week or as soon as possible after the completion of each YGP event. YGP Standings will be posted using your July 1st age group.

Note: The Youth Grand Prix committee reserves the right to substitute races in the event of a cancellation.

Stand with us as a sponsor of Sentara’s annual Don’t Sit on Colon Cancer 5K & 1 mile walk, a community-driven event dedicated to saving lives through awareness, early detection, and support for those battling colon cancer. On March 28, 2026, survivors, families, medical teams, and supporters will come together not just to move their bodies, but to move change forward.

Today, colon cancer is the leading cause of cancer in men under 50 and the second leading cause in women of the same age. Even more alarming, it is increasingly being diagnosed in younger adults, many of whom face advanced stages of the disease due to delayed detection. These realities underscore the critical need for increased awareness, education, and access to screening.

Run or walk to remember those lost, honor those fighting, and to celebrate the survivors of Colorectal Cancer throughout Hampton Roads.

Proceeds from this event directly support colorectal cancer education, increase access to screening, and provide financial assistance to patients experiencing hardship.

    Please note:

For the safety and comfort of all attendees, please be advised that pets are not permitted at the event with the exception of service animals. We appreciate your understanding as this policy ensures a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.

Thank you for your cooperation, and we look forward to seeing you at the race.

    Why D-Feet Cancer?

D-Feet Cancer was formed in late 2021 after parents Jen and Will promised their 12-year-old son, Dalton, they wouldn’t stop fighting this disease to help kids like him. With support from family, friends, and community, D-Feet Cancer was formed in late 2021. In January 2023, D-Feet Cancer wrote a check for $100,000.08 (8 was Dalton’s favorite number) to fund one year of Ewing Sarcoma research. This research, in partnership with the University of Pittsburgh and St. Baldrick’s Foundation, aims to specifically target Ewing Sarcoma cells via cell surface receptors while leaving healthy cells alone. If successful, this treatment could significantly increase survivorship while limiting the often debilitating and sometimes fatal side effects of traditional chemotherapy. After another year of fundraising, D-Feet Cancer donated another $100,000 to St. Baldrick's in February 2024 to fund the University of Pittsburgh research for a second year. An additional $50,000 also helped fund a separate but

related research project in Vancouver, Canada. Thanks to the generosity of donors, D-Feet Cancer funded the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles in 2025 to study the Ewing Sarcoma using zebrafish. This $97,500.08 will fund a research lab for a year. Additionally, another $50,000 grant was disbursed to the research team in Vancouver to help prepare their novel treatment for a clinical trial.

In total, D-Feet Cancer has funded over $480,000 of pediatric cancer research and supports researchers in Washington D.C., Pittsburgh, Vancouver, and Los Angeles. D-Feet Cancer will make another six-figure research grant in the first half of 2026. Thank you to all of our sponsors, donors, and supporters for allowing us to fund this critical research.

D-Feet Cancer hopes to continue to raise awareness of pediatric cancer in general and Ewing Sarcoma specifically in the years to come. 100% of donations and all Dalton’s Dash 5K proceeds will directly fund research into Ewing Sarcoma and other under-studied pediatric cancers to help the approximately 16,000 U.S. kids each year, who, just like Dalton, are diagnosed with cancer. By directly funding research into these cancers, D-Feet Cancer is determined to help discover more effective and less toxic treatments while supporting both patients and families during their greatest time of need.

To learn more about D-Feet Cancer, the research we fund, and our mission, please visit www.DFeetCancer.org. The story of our inspiration, Dalton Fox, can be found on the website but is also below. Dalton is our “WHY.”

    Dalton Fox's Story:

In March of 2018, Dalton began a standard chemotherapy regimen designed to kill the rapidly dividing Ewing Sarcoma cells along with a limb salvage surgery in July of 2018. After almost a year of chemotherapy and an artificial knee and metal tibia, Dalton was declared cancer-free in February of 2019. In May of 2019, Dalton's cancer had returned and on August 28, 2019, Dalton’s left leg was amputated just above his left knee.

Dalton’s smile and sense of humor were infectious. Even while fighting cancer, Dalton brightened every room he walked into. Dalton loved animals, especially lemurs, and even had a lemur picture on Larry, his prosthetic leg. When kids asked him what happened to his missing left leg, Dalton would smile and say, “shark attack.” He even wanted to get a pedicure and see if he got half off.

Dalton’s amputation was followed by another six months of chemotherapy. Once again, in February of 2020, Dalton was declared cancer-free. With his new prosthetic leg, named Larry, Dalton enjoyed a Spring out of the hospital. Unfortunately, the amputation and six more months of additional chemo didn’t work. A June 2020 chest x-ray showed a lung full of fluid and a metastasis of the Ewing Sarcoma. Over the next eleven months, Dalton continued to smile and make others laugh all while fighting for his own life. If pure grit, determination, and toughness had been enough, Dalton would have easily beaten his cancer. D, as he was often called, needed better medicine/treatment options, and time. Dalton died on May 25, 2021, a little more than three years after his initial diagnosis.

This is a FUN run and not a timed event. Additionally, those running with strollers and walking are encouraged to start in the back of the pack. Wheelchair/hand-cyclists/duo teams will be allowed on a limited basis, and these runners will start at the front of the pack. Please contact us if you will be participating as a wheelchair/hand-cycle/duo team. Pets, bicycles, skateboards, in-line skates, and scooters are NOT permitted in the race.

Packet pickup will be MAY 15, 2026 at CLUB BRITTANY (800 Five Point Road, 23454) from 4-6 pm. Cheers to the 5th Annual Dalton's Dash 5k and kids' 100-yard dash! We hope to see you there!

This is our 21st Annual Dolphin Dash, in which we are raising money for Abby's Legacy Foundation. Abby’s Legacy Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that supports childhood cancer patients through research, care, and love. All money raised from our Winter Carnival, Casholas, and this race will go to this charity.

You may both register and pay for the race on this page. All registrations include a T-shirt designed by an Ocean Lakes student along with a race bag. The cost of the race will be $35, and on race day will increase to $40 (and you will fill out a paper registration form). If the race is cancelled due to inclement weather, it will NOT be rescheduled, and there will be NO REFUNDS. If the race is rescheduled due to other reasons, door prizes will be sent out through a drawing.

Registration on race day will begin at 8:30 AM. The race program will start at 9:00 with the Mini Dash.

Awards: Participants will be given a door prize ticket as they cross the finish line for the multiple door prizes given out at the conclusion of the races.
