Located in Reston, VA, Lake Fairfax has a beautiful lake and an awesome trail network. Our courses hit the best singletrack and include some great views of the lake. There are a few short technical sections (more rocks and roots), but most of the course is fairly smooth singletrack. There is barely any pavement on this course. There are no extended climbs, but lots of short ups and downs.

Charity partnership

During registration, you will have an opportunity to support a local non-profit Homestretch. The goal of the charity partnership is to first and foremost to raise awareness of the services Homestretch provides to families in our area. In addition, we hope to raise funds that will directly support their efforts. Please consider making a donation when you register.

The Reston Runners are hosting the 13th annual Run Thru Reston Half Marathon & 5K on Sunday, April 26, 2026, 7:30 AM

The racecourse has some rolling hills on beautiful, paved trails. The course will be well marked and lined with friendly and supportive volunteers to boost your spirits along the way. The half marathon and 5K races will both start on the track at South Lakes High School. The Half Marathon will start at 7:30 am, followed by the 5K start at 7:45 am. Both races will finish on the track at South Lakes HS.

The 5K race is perfect for walkers and families who are there to support their half marathon runner. We do not allow pets or strollers on the course.

We provide an extensive post-race feast for all race participants and volunteers. The courses are amply supported with eager volunteers, porta-potties (for the Half Marathon), race-course water and Gatorade. Runners and volunteers receive a technical race shirt and other goodies at packet pick up. Race shirts are guaranteed to participants if they register by April 1, 2025.

Registration Fees:

Half Marathon: Through November 30: $85

December 1 through December 31: $90

January 1 through March 31: $95

April 1 through Race Day: $100

Half Marathon participants will receive a custom bib, commemorative technical shirt, car seat cover, and finisher medal

5K: through November 30: $40

December 1 through December 31:$45

January 1 through Race Day (April 27): $50

5K participants will receive a custom bib and technical race shirt and finisher medal

Online registration will remain open through Race Day, April 26 at 7:00am. All registration must be completed online.

There will be no late/race day paper registration.

Race Day, Sunday, April 26 starting at 6:00 am at South Lakes HS.

Awards for the Half Marathon and 5K

• Top 3 overall Male & Female winners

• Top 3 male & female finishers in each of the following age groups: Under 15 (for 5K only), 15-19, 20-24,

25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79 and 80 & Over.

Note: Runners are eligible for a single award.

Devotion To Children (DTC) is committed to providing access to affordable quality educational and childcare programs for children aged six and under from economically disadvantaged families. DTC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to fulfilling the needs of these children so that they may become responsible members of society. Both working and unemployed families need access to affordable, quality preschool, daycare, and educational services unavailable to them without outside assistance. Devotion identifies those needs and works to fulfill them.

Held annually on the first Sunday in June, this year’s 20th annual Reston Sprint Triathlon takes place on Sunday, June 7, 2026, beginning with a 400-meter swim in Lake Newport pool, followed by a 12-mile bike ride on the streets of Reston, and a 5K run on area pathways. Afterward, celebrate your success and share your stories with friends and family in the post-race beer garden.

Our in-person Monthly Meetup series begins in February. Meetups present an opportunity to meet the RST leadership team, gain resources for your training, participate in raffles, and make new friends! In addition, the Health & Wellness Fair takes place on Saturday, June 6th, 2026, in the Lake Newport pool parking lot.
