in our fourth annual Eddie’s Safari Run on Saturday, March 7, 2026.

Gear up for a special adventure and demonstrate your

physical fitness by participating in a safari run fit for all ages!

REGISTRATION DETAILS:

• Early registration ends February 6

• Registration deadline: March 5, Noon

• Registration is limited, so register early; online registration only

FEES:

• 2K: $15 early / $20 late

• 5K: $25 early / $30 late

All proceeds will benefit the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley.

Come and test your skills at the 5th Annual Edinburg's Dirty Duathlon where you can do this course individually or as a relay.

Start time: 7:30 a.m.

Location: Doolittle Nature Park, 1300 N Doolittle Rd. Edinburg Tx, 78542

Event: 1.5 run, 3 mile bike, 1.5 run.

Individual: $20, custom shirt, finisher medal and chip timed.

Helmets must be used on the bike NO EXCEPTIONS

RELAY: $30 ( $15.00 each) first person to register will pay the $30 and will be required to make a Team Name. This will allow your relay partner to sign up and using the team name will allow him/her to register for free. Relay members will receive custom shirt, finisher medal and chip timed. *Trails are very sharp, narrow and terrain can be challenging. Please try to go to the course and attempt to ride it before the event.

Person 1 will run 1.5 miles (start)

Person 2 will bike 3 miles with helmet

The mission of Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Hidalgo County is to advocate for the best interests of children in the foster care system by promoting and supporting quality volunteer representation—ensuring every child has the opportunity to grow up in a safe, permanent, and nurturing home.

In Hidalgo County, the need for CASA is significant. During fiscal year 2024–2025, 2,086 children experienced foster care. CASA volunteers served 246 children, representing only 8.5% of those who needed a dedicated voice in court. With community support, we can reach more children who deserve advocacy and stability.

The 15th Annual Glow Blue for CASA 5K Fun Run/Walk is an evening event held in recognition of Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month. The event will begin with a candlelight vigil honoring children impacted by abuse and neglect, followed by a 5K Fun Run/Walk symbolizing hope, awareness, and action.

Proceeds benefit CASA of Hidalgo County, Inc., helping ensure that every child in foster care who needs a voice has a CASA volunteer by their side.

In honor of Lance Corporal Derek Hernandez, 20, of Edinburg, Texas; assigned to 3rd Battalion, 1st Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, California; killed June 6, 2010, while supporting combat operations in Helmand Province, Afghanistan.

The Freddy Gonzalez Legacy 5K is more than just a race—it is a tribute to Freddy Gonzalez, Derek Hernandez, and all the brave men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation.

As we come together this Memorial Day weekend, we run not only to remember them but also to ensure their courage, sacrifice, and legacy live on in our hearts and in our community.

Join us on the route, embrace the memories, and let’s run in unity to honor these heroes who gave everything for our freedom.
