Run fast. Drink hard. Don’t get bit.

What do you get when you combine trail running, random beers, and your most competitive (and possibly least coordinated) friends? The Cottonmouth Beerlay, baby! This wild race at the beautiful Lakewood Nature Preserve is back for another year of glorious chaos, beer-fueled miles, and unforgettable memories.

You can run it solo if you're a one-person party machine, or grab a few beer-loving buddies and tackle it as a relay team of 2–4. Either way, you're in for 8 miles of pure, ridiculous fun.

Are you fast enough to outrun the Cottonmouth? Or will the beer bite first?

🐾 How It Works:

Each lap is a 2-mile trail loop through the preserve. You’ll do it 4 times total.

Before every lap, runners must consume a randomly-selected beer from the BYOB community pool

Solo runners do it all themselves. Relay teams tag in one runner per lap.

🍻 21+ only for the drinking portion, of course. Minors and Sober folks may run with non-alcoholic alternatives but must be carbonated.

🧊 BYOB Russian Roulette (a Cottonmouth Classic)

Each runner brings 4 beers (5%+ ABV), which are tossed into our giant iced community kitty pool.

When it's your turn to run, a volunteer will hand you a mystery brew, already cracked and poured.

You drink it, you run it. Deal with the consequences.

No swapping. No peeking. No mercy.

Non Alcoholic Drinks are of course permitted. We love sobriety but we just haven't practiced it yet! 😂

And I’m callin’ you out to dance in my glow at the Longest Day—a race from sunrise to sunset on the trails of The Preserve at Lakewood. 🌅🏃‍♂️🌄 I’ll rise above the horizon at 6:30AM sharp, and from then until I take my fiery bow around 10PM, you’ll be racing against me… and against time. ⏳🔥

Every 2-mile lap is your chance to shine. But beware—each lap gets one minute SHORTER to complete. My light fades, the clock ticks, and your legs better keep moving! Only the strongest will last 'til twilight… maybe one winner… or none at all. 😈🌞

🏞️ Welcome to My Playground:

The trails of The Preserve at Lakewood—120 acres of forest, rolling grass paths, and wildlife galore. While you're out chasing glory, don’t be surprised if a white-tailed deer or curious box turtle cheers you on. 🦌🐢🌳

You’ll loop past red cedars and maple trees, glide by singing mockingbirds and blue jays, and maybe catch a glimpse of a fox sneaking off to find shade. This is nature’s race course, and I light every inch of it.

🎯 Here’s the Deal:

🕕 Start: 6:30AM sharp—don’t be late, I wait for no one.

🔁 Format: 2-mile loop. First lap = 45 minutes to finish. Each lap after = 1 minute less to complete.

💀 Fall behind? Ring the cowbell of defeat and surrender your bib.

🏆 Lap 31: If you make it this far, first across the line wins the whole solar shebang.

As I rise over the trees and cast my silver light across the prairie, you'll embark on an overnight running adventure like no other—starting at sunset and continuing ‘til the first golden whisper of dawn. 🌄 From the cozy charm of an old barn nestled in the preserve, you’ll set out on a 1.5-mile loop through wide grassy trails under my watchful eye. Whether you're a seasoned ultrarunner or just testing your night legs, this is your time to shine.

Every loop you run, you’re racing both the clock and the stars. ⏳✨ You’ll have 25 minutes to complete each loop—plenty of time to push your pace, then cozy up by the fire with fellow moonlit wanderers while I float above. 🔥🐺🦉As you run, listen for the whisper of wings, the rustle of deer, and maybe even the soft crunch of fox paws. You’re not just racing—you’re part of the nighttime wilderness now. And I promise, it’s magical. There is ample space in and around the barn for your personal setup. If you and your crew are coming, we’ll have room around the barn and along the course for larger base camp setups. Bring your tent, your friends, your firewood, and your sense of adventure. Just remember: pack it in, pack it out so we leave this preserve more beautiful than we found it. So lace up, brave soul. Let’s run through the dark together. I’ll be there, shining above—your finish line beacon in the longest night. 🌕💫

Site & Setup Guidelines

Fire pits: Must be off the ground or set on a protective ground barrier.
Tents: All tents must be properly staked in and secured.
Setup time: On-site setup will begin at 3:00 PM.
Parking by the barn: If you are running a half marathon distance or less, please do not park by the barn. Those spaces are reserved for runners attempting longer distances.

With 350+ runners in attendance, our space (parking and setup) is limited, but we can accommodate everyone if we all make smart preparations this week and follow directions on race day.

Setup Time

The preserve opens at 3:00 PM for SETUP.

Parking Plan

Barn parking (150 spots): First come, first served.
Field lot (adjacent to barn): Once barn parking fills, park here next.
Road parking: After the field lot is full, participants may park along the road leading into the preserve.

✅ Park on the RIGHT side of the road ONLY.
❌ Any car parked on the LEFT side WILL BE TOWED.

Base Camp Rules

✅ Tents, tables, and portable firepits / propane fires are permitted.
Please be mindful of the space you use so everyone has room to set up.
Pack In, Pack Out: Do not leave trash on site and do not leave it by the barn for me to handle. That’s not our job.
No Utilities - This nature preserve has NO POWER and NO WATER.
