    About:

Queer NEPA is an LGBTQIA+ organization dedicated to culture, community, and justice. Queer NEPA blossomed out of the 2018 Pride Series, of the same name, organized by queer, transgender Muslim activist Emma Maloney (She/They Pronouns). A highlight of our 2018 Pride Series was the first Pride flag raising in the city of Scranton. On Pulse Remembrance Day, June 12th, 2018, Queer NEPA officially declared its founding as an organization dedicated to nonviolent advocacy and advancing the cause of LGBTQ+ rights in Northeastern Pennsylvania (NEPA).

Queer NEPA’s platform is rooted in equality and community building. From Pulse to Stonewall, the queer community has a history rooted in resilience and bonded by love. Understanding the past helps us navigate present-day, as well as create a better tomorrow. Queer NEPA is dedicated to a campaign of nonviolent activism for peace and LGBTQ rights in both Luzerne and Lackawanna counties of NEPA. We also believe in gender equity, reproductive justice, and the abolition of poverty. Through volunteerism, advocacy, & coalition building, we hope to see a society free of the systems of hate, violence, & oppression that have afflicted NEPA & the rest of the world. We also look to evoke change through the power of the arts by speaking truth to power & uplifting local LGBTQ creatives.

Overall, Queer NEPA seeks to create a space where people can be unapologetically themselves, as well as raise up a diverse community that uplifts marginalized peoples.

The NEPA Ecotour is a two-day, 85-mile supported cycling tour designed to showcase Northeastern Pennsylvania’s growing network of connected trails. Riders must bring their own bicycles; however, all meals, shuttles, swag, insurance, guides, and route maps are included with registration. Event is rain or shine.

    Day 1 - Saturday, October 17th

Participants will meet at the Lackawanna Heritage Valley Authority Office in Scranton at 9 AM, where both riders and bikes will be shuttled to Ararat. This is the starting point of the day’s ride along the scenic D&H Trail.

From Ararat, cyclists will enjoy a gradual descent back into the valley, crossing onto the Lackawanna River Heritage Trail before lunch in Carbondale. Riders will finish before 5 PM at the Lackawanna Heritage Valley Authority Office. Bicycles will be securely stored here overnight.

That evening, riders and their guests are invited to a relaxed reception at Groove Brewing, featuring food and a selection of complimentary beverages for registered participants. It’s a great opportunity to unwind, connect with fellow cyclists, and celebrate the first day’s ride.

Light breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks will be provided on Saturday.

    Day 2 - Sunday, October 18th

The second day begins at Test Track Park in Berwick at 8 AM, where participants will gather and board shuttle transportation back to Scranton. After retrieving their bikes at the Lackawanna Heritage Valley Authority Office, riders will set off on a 45-mile ride back to Berwick. This day’s route features a mix of trail, including the Lackawanna River Heritage Trail, Luzerne County Levee Trail, and Susquehanna Warrior Trail, and additional on-road segments.

Breakfast, lunch, and snacks will be provided on Sunday.

Riders must get themselves to the Lackawanna Heritage Valley Authority Office by 9 AM on Saturday AND to Test Track Park in Berwick by 8 AM on Sunday. Riders will be shuttled to the start of the route each day and will end at their cars
