In honor of the Boys & Girls Club Day for Kids, our 6th annual 5K to Wellness is scheduled for Saturday, September 19th, 2026, at the Cherry Blossom Welcome Center in Branch Brook Park, Newark, NJ.
The Boys & Girls Club of Newark (BGCN) is an after-school program in Newark. We are more than an after-school program. We believe in supporting children from a holistic approach. On-site at the Boys & Girls Club of Newark, we have a pediatric dental center that provides no cost to low-cost dental services to children in the community, food distributions, vision care, and social and emotional support to children who attend the program.
Our first 5K fundraiser in 2021, spurred by the COVID-19 pandemic that illuminated more access to care, allowed us to hire an additional wellness support staff to expand our wellness program. In addition, last year’s event catalyzed us to launch our mental and behavioral health clinic in October 2022. With your participation, we can expand our mental and behavioral service to our members and the greater Newark community by hiring additional licensed mental health practitioners. Additionally, your support will provide families access to nutrition education, case management to address immediate daily needs and dental and vision care. BGCN requests your support to make our 5th annual 5K to Wellness a success!
When you race with us, you will get cool stuff, too! You will receive a t-shirt and a 5K run/walk finisher medal. The race will take place on a USATF-certified course and is sanctioned.
Age Group Awards (M&F Overall Top 3, 15 & under, 16 -19, 20 - 29, 30 - 39, 40 - 49, 50 - 59, 60 - 69, 70+ )
Join us, as we would love to take a 5K run/walk to Wellness with you!
Parking Information
There is parking located at the Cherry Blossom Welcome Center. Additional free parking is available at a side parking lot at 987-1051 Franklin Ave, Newark, NJ 07107. Lace up your sneakers and join us for our 4th Annual 5K and Fun Walk, supporting this year’s beneficiary, Neighborhood Emergency Aid Response (NEAR).
NEAR is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization
established in 2022 to provide rapid emergency assistance within the Amblebrook community. When a medical emergency occurs, every second matters. While Amblebrook is served by the regional 911 system—including Adams Regional Emergency Medical Services (AREMS), the Gettysburg Fire Department, and the Pennsylvania State Police—the large coverage areas for these services can sometimes lead to longer response times. NEAR was created to help bridge that gap.
When you dial 911, NEAR is dispatched at the same time as the ambulance. As a Pennsylvania EMS-certified Quick Response Service (QRS), NEAR volunteers are often able to arrive quickly to provide critical care until professional emergency responders arrive.
NEAR works closely with AREMS and is certified through the Emergency Health Services Federation of Pennsylvania. Each response team includes highly trained volunteers skilled in basic life support, CPR/AED, and first aid, with at least one team member certified as an Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), EMT, or Paramedic. These teams provide immediate, potentially life-saving interventions while awaiting ambulance crews.
In addition to emergency response, NEAR strengthens the community by offering CPR, AED, and first-aid training for Amblebrook residents.
Proceeds and donations from this year’s race support NEAR’s mission and contribute to a designated endowment that helps sustain the organization for years to come, ensuring that rapid emergency care is available when our community needs it most.

Dustin was an accomplished athlete and great student. He was a champion wrestler while in High School and a captain of the wrestling team. He was a “Two-Time Wrestler of the Year” for Today’s
Sunbeam. After High School, while attending Wilmington University, Dustin started running. He competed in many Triathlons and Half Iron Man Events. Once he completed two years at Wilmington University, where he was on the Dean’s List each semester, he moved to Delray Beach, Florida for a fresh start to find his way in life. On August 30, 2012 his life was tragically taken from us from a random act of violence.
Dustin made you smile the moment he came into a room. He loved to make others laugh and was never afraid to laugh at himself. In his life he was an inspiration to all who knew and loved him. No matter what he was going through personally, he always had time to make you feel better about any circumstances you may be facing.
In his memory, The Dustin Deckard Scholarship was established, Tax ID #46-0893602, to continue the work he would of done if he was still with us. More than 30 scholarships have been awarded to date.

The WOW Center
The WOW Center is a New Jersey- based 501(c)3 nonprofit organization with a mission of empowering real women with real stories to thrive, dream, believe, and pursue the impossible through love and community. The WOW Center is a community of women who stand alongside each other imperfect, restored, and redeemed. Through the sharing of personal testimony and faith in action, WOW empowers women to fully embrace and believe, “I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13 NKJV)
People often ask, “Why is it called WOW?”
“WOW!” is the reaction almost always expressed when listening to the amazing life changing testimonies of so many incredible women we are privileged to come alongside. With a mission of empowering women, The WOW Center’s natural target population is women, but we also know and truly believe that if you empower a woman you will impact her family and broader community as well. Daily, we join hands to pray, support, empower, love and encourage one another in the valley or on the mountain top. We do life together through love and community!

We are honored to host the annual Patrolman Samuel C. Irvin Legacy 5K Walk/Run at Mansfield Twp. Park. The event will take place on the paved Kinkora Trail that winds through woods and farm fields.
This event is in memory of our 23-year-old son, Sam, who tragically passed away from sudden cardiac arrest on July 23, 2023, while working out. Following his passing, we learned that Sam had a genetic mutation known as Brugada Syndrome. Sam was a three-sport athlete in high school and played college baseball. He had recently graduated from college and the Gloucester Police Academy and was serving as a patrolman for the Mansfield Police Department at the time of his death. He is survived by his son Beau Samuel. This event, with your participation and support, will not only honor Sam's legacy but also make a meaningful impact by supporting student athletic scholarships established in Sam's name at Northern Burlington County Regional High School. Together, we can honor Sam's legacy and make a
meaningful impact!

Miracles for Myeloma Hybrid 5K Run/Walk is continuing to Redefine Being Together as we come together once again toward our common goal of Finding a Cure for Multiple Myeloma.
Be a Part of the Cure and Register Today!
You have the option to join a team Virtually or In-Person. Your team may be a hybrid of both Virtual AND In Person participants. We will even have separate competitions for Virtual participants and In Person participants so everyone will get that competitive feeling no matter where you are competing from, near or far. We encourage you to have fun and share your team pictures on our Facebook page.
If you prefer to register as an individual Virtually or In-Person, we welcome you. You may be running/walking as an individual but you are a part of our Miracles for Myeloma Community. By registering or donating, you helping us get one step closer to finding a cure for Multiple Myeloma.
