RACE DESCRIPTION:
The Steel City 12 Hour Run/Ruck is not only an event celebrating the uprising of Middletown with the creation of George Verity's American Rolling Mill Company, it's a celebration of individuals and pushing the limits we set for ourselves!
Come join us Saturday, August 1st at 6pm. The race will run until the following morning at 6am. This is a great training opportunity to run through the night for any upcoming races you may have. Or just come to run a marathon, half marathon, 10k, a couple miles, etc.
Price Increase 30 days out! Sign up today!
THE COURSE:
This is a 1.52 mile looped course that follows a paved path around Smith Park in Middletown, OH. The course is very flat and parallels Middletown Regional Airport. The goal is to run as many loops as possible in 12 hours. If you run all 12 hours, we will give you a marker on your last loop you can drop at 12 hours and we will measure the added on distance. This race will be chipped timed by Brunning Endurance Company (brunningendurance.com). There is one aid station at the start/finish line area that will be fully stocked with water, infinite, vegetable soup, bacon at midnight, coffee at 3am and donuts at 5am. You may bring a canopy and personal aid to the race to set up along the course.
OUR GOAL:
Many of you may know that Steel City was started as a free race with the suggested donation of new clothing for our local homeless shelter or a monetary donation for Art Central Foundation. We are now charging 60 dollars per participant to help cover costs associated with the race. Our goal is to cover essential race costs and donate the proceeds to Art Central Foundation (ACF). When you buy a race t-shirt, 100% of that money will go to ACF. The students compete in a competition to create the design for the race shirts each year. You can check out some of the previous t-shirt designs by scrolling through our race photos.
We believe in the mission of ACF, as they are a downtown Middletown nonprofit that provides local residents and students opportunities to grow in the visual arts. The money that we donate will help provide free visual art classes, workshops, field trips to local art museums, materials, and much more to local students pursuing visual arts. Check out ACF on their website: https://artcentralfoundation.org/index.php
RUCK:
If you are rucking in this event you will need to carry a minimum of 25lbs. We will weigh your pack at the beginning and end of the race. Find the scale at the registration booth. Backpack style ruck must be used to win an award. No vests.
AWARDS:
Unique finisher awards, hand crafted by students of Art Central Foundation, will be handed out for any and all who complete a marathon, 50k, 50 miler and 100k running or rucking, during the 12 hour time span. We will give awards to the top place male and female runners and ruckers as well.
