We are bringing movement to you!
The mission of Move Together Columbus is to address health disparities in Columbus, Ohio through the power of movement and togetherness.
Together, we are hosting free monthly fun run/walk events at select Columbus Public School locations, bringing together students, teachers, parents, community members and local wellness enthusiasts in a safe and inclusive environment.
Move Together Columbus is a collaborative initiative between Columbus City Schools Wellness Initiative, Fleet Feet, Brooks, Miles for Justice, and Safe Space Running aimed at promoting community fitness and wellness through walking and running.
MOVEMENT IS MEDICINE
Our inner-city communities face numerous health issues, including limited access to healthcare, higher rates of chronic diseases, and disparities in health outcomes.
Movement can play a crucial role in preventative medicine for our communities by promoting physical activity, reducing stress, and improving overall well-being. By encouraging regular exercise, healthy eating habits, and access to healthcare resources, movement can help prevent chronic diseases and improve the overall health of marginalized populations.

The Running Outreach Initiative is an OSU student-led nonprofit whose mission is to enrich the lives of elementary and middle school students through the power of running. This accessible sport provides health benefits and social opportunities, though many of our coaches have also experienced the role that running has played in developing their character, including their self-motivation, grit, and confidence. TROI wants to remove the financial barriers to participation in this incredible sport, therefore all revenue generated from the Kicks for Kids 5K will be used to purchase brand-new injury-preventing running shoes for the ~100 youth athletes whom TROI coaches in the Columbus area across its programs at Graham Elementary & Middle School, North Columbus Preparatory Academy, South Columbus Preparatory Academy at Southfield, and A+ Children's Academy. Learn more at https://www.instagram.com/runningoutreachosu/.
Buckeyes for Public Health is an OSU student organization partnering with TROI to organize this event and raise funds in support of TROI's contributions to youth public health in the Columbus community. Learn more at https://org.osu.edu/buckeyesforpublichealth/.

FAQ:
How do I get back to the theatre location I parked at?
There will be no shuttles or organized transportation. Think of this like you would a bar crawl where you start at one end of the line, and end on the other. We recommend planning to be picked up by a friend or using Rideshare. Or round up to a half marathon and run home!
What do we do when we arrive at the first location?
Head to the registration table to sign in and get your bib and course map. Then head into the theatre for the first screening!
What do we do when we arrive at the second location after the run?
Grab your shirt, pint glass, get 1 free beer, and hang out until the second screening begins at 11:30am.
Will the kitchens be open?
The kitchens will be open throughout the event! Have yourself some Forrest Brunch.
What should we wear?
Plan for the weather (July in Ohio, could be hot or blazing hot, ya know how it goes) but costumes are highly encouraged! You will be sweaty, so either plan a change of clothes at your ending theatre or sweat it up!!
Is there a gear drop?
Yes, put your belongings in ONE small bag, label it and give it to our volunteers at registrations. They will transport to your end location.
What do we get?
Entry to the event, Forrest Gump Screening, Custom Event Pint Glass, Event t-shirt, 1 Free Beer, and Bragging rights.
Is this a race?
NAHHHH. This is not a chipped/timed event, it is a FUN RUN. Hence the costumes and beer. If you'd like to bust ass between theaters, that's on you. All you'll get is braggin' rights.
Will there be water on the course?
YES. We will supply water and gatorade at three locations along the 6.5 mile course. We'll have chocolate and shrimp for the true Gump-heads at the midway point. View the course here.
What is your inclement weather policy?
We run rain or shine. If there is an imminent threat of lightning, we will communicate delays or cancellations via our official channels.
