In 2026, the nation will celebrate the Route 66 Centennial, marking the 100th anniversary of the Mother Road serving the traveling public! Route 66 was one of the first continuous stretches of paved highway in the United States and served as a primary route for westward migrants.
RunFit is hosting the Mother Road Half Marathon on Sunday, March 1, 2026, to kick off this year-long celebration. The event features a variety of races: Half Marathon, 6.6-mile run, a 6.6K run or walk, and a 1-mile walk.
Join us for this special day as we celebrate the Mother Road with a run or walk along the iconic Route 66! Whether you prefer to run or walk, this event is for everyone!
A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Albuquerque Little Theatre (ALT). For over 95 years, ALT has served the community by providing excellent live entertainment, educating adults and children, and offering opportunities for artistic expression. ALT continues the tradition of community theatre by delivering outstanding performances and allowing residents of the greater Albuquerque area to participate in live theatre production. As a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization, ALT relies on the support of more than 500 volunteers who assist with various activities, including box office management, backstage work, on-stage performances, and serving on board committees.

A participant who has received any assistance from another person may be disqualified from the Event. "Assistance" includes, without limitation, conveying advice, information, or direct or indirect help to a participant by any means, including technical communication devices. Any person not correctly displaying an authorized and issued bib number shall be directed to leave the course.
A hands-on medical examination by officially designated medical personnel during the progress of an Event shall not be considered assistance and will not result in disqualification if the participant is deemed medically fit.
PARTICIPANT SAFETY

Participants must immediately retire from the race if ordered to do so by a member of the Event's official staff, official medical staff, or any governmental authority, including fire and police officials.
Participants are responsible for and assume liability for any and all medical expenses incurred as a result of training for and/or participating in the Event, including, but not limited to, ambulance transport, hospital stays, physician and pharmaceutical goods and services.
Event officials reserve the right to delay, cancel, or suspend the race due to inclement weather, other conditions, or governmental orders or directives in accordance with the Emergency Protocol on severe emergencies and/or inclement weather.
Participants should familiarize themselves with the Event Alert System (EAS) and adjust their race plans accordingly.

HISTORY OF RUNFIT
RunFit, a before- and after-school running program, was launched in the spring of 2006 as a bold joint initiative to curb the growing childhood obesity epidemic by creating a running program for children at after-school (or before-school) programs across New Mexico.
RunFit is designed to help youth of all sizes, fitness levels, and abilities use the discipline of running to improve health, build character, and uplift the spirit. After-school programs such as RunFit play a vital role in our communities by keeping children safe, building healthy habits, and supporting working families.
RunFit is a fun, free, and intensive program that motivates and trains elementary school students to run one mile to five kilometers (3.1 miles) without stopping through active participation on an after-school (or before-school) running team. Participants learn to set and achieve challenging personal goals, are awarded incentives for attendance and improvement, and culminate in local running events.
