FAQs:
Do you have a GPS/GPX of the course? Because our trails are very close together, the file will look like spaghetti on your GPS device. Look for pre-ride announcements on our www.facebook.com or www.challengermtb.com page. The course is fully marked before Friday June 13th. If the weather is agreeable, it MAY be marked sooner, but it's 100% marked by Friday afternoon.
Do you offer Guided Pre-Rides? Yes, we do. They are posted on our Bike Reg Page, and our Facebook Page. https://www.facebook.com/ChallengerMTB/ Pre-Rides will be broken down based upon CAT1, CAT2, CAT3, and E-Bike speeds. Meaning whichever CAT you will be racing, attend the matching pre ride. If you want to find out about the private pre-rides be sure to subscribe to our newsletter on our website.
Can I pre-ride the day of the race? Yes, as long as you are OFF THE COURSE BY 8:15 AM SHARP.
The course is different from previous years. Is there still room for passing? Yes. There are several wide passing zones spread out over the course. There are 3 new additional wide passing zones early in the race. We believe we have found a great balance between awesome single track, and wide passing areas.
You've added an E-Bike class. When are they racing? Once the CAT 3 racer have finished for the day, then we will launch our separate E-Bike category. The approximate start time is 2:20 pm.
What is an E-Bike? An E-Bike is a pedal assisted bicycle. Meaning it can not have a throttle and you must pedal to activate the assist. All E-Bikes must be a Class 1 bicycle.
Can I race my E-Bike earlier in the day? NO. E-Bikes can only race in the E-Bike category starting around 2:20pm.
Can I register on the day of the race? Yes, there will be an additional $10 charge (above the Bikereg.com fee) to register on the day of the race. All day-of registrations are CASH ONLY! There are 5 ATM machines within 1 mile of our venue. Apple Pay, Google Pay, Venmo, Paypal and checks are NOT CASH! Bring paper (dead Presidents) CASH if you will be registering the day of the race.

We are beyond excited to celebrate the 6th Annual Philadelphia HBCU 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, June 27, 2026! This milestone event is a true testament to the incredible support and dedication from our community, and it’s thanks to all of you that this has become the largest run/walk of its kind in the country.
For the past six years, we’ve come together in Philadelphia, New Jersey, and Delaware, alongside our HBCU Alumni Alliance affiliates in Atlanta and Washington, D.C., to raise crucial funds for our students while promoting healthy living. With your help, we’ve successfully raised over $100K in scholarships, directly benefiting students across our region.
This year, we return to Cooper River Park in Pennsauken, NJ, with the excitement of both in-person and virtual participation to ensure everyone—no matter where they are—can continue to support this incredible cause. Together, we are building on the legacies of our beloved HBCUs, and every step taken will help continue this powerful tradition.
We extend our deepest gratitude to our corporate and individual supporters for your unwavering commitment. Your involvement brings our event motto to life: “Run for YOU, Run for THEM, Run for OUR LEGACY.” Without your support, this event would not be possible.
Let’s continue this journey together, honoring the past, empowering the future, and running for the next generation of HBCU students! Thank you for being part of this legacy!

THIS IS A VERY, VERY, VERY IMPORTANT NOTE FOR ANYONE THAT IS
CONSIDERING BRINGING THEIR DOG TO THIS SPECIAL EVENT:
🔥🐶🔥
Due to the fact that we are running within feet of farm animals
ALL OWNERS AND THEIR DOGS WILL NEED TO TURN AROUND BEFORE YOU GET TO THE FARM ANIMALS!
This means that while you CAN RUN or WALK the event, you will not be timed due to the fact that you will turn around before the timing mats.
So when you register for this event, please register for the 2 mile fun run/walk.
You can still run or walk longer than 2 miles, but you will not be timed and will not be allowed to run or walk by the farm animals.
WE LOVE DOGS, but we appreciate your consideration for other animals.
(hence our logo🐶)
(But, for this event we need to be cautious)

Roots, Rock, Run 5K
In the USA, nearly 1 in 5 girls miss school during their period, and globally, 2 in 3 girls are also missing out on important learning opportunities.
Roots, Rock, Run 5K supports the GrassROOTS Community Foundation's global menstrual equity work, where we increase knowledge, provide menstrual supplies, and advocate for legislation to #endperiodpoverty. Your participation helps make this possible, with funds raised supporting this vital cause.
This year's R3 5K offers a hybrid experience, allowing participants from our Global Menstrual Equity Council in the US, Jamaica, Ghana, South Africa, Kenya and beyond to choose between live or virtual races.
Whether you join us in person at Lloyd Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, or participate virtually from anywhere in the world, your contribution will make a difference.
On Saturday, May 31^st, between 8:30 am and 12:00 pm, we will collectively run or walk a 5K wherever we are, uniting to combat period poverty.
Proceeds from your registration will directly support our efforts to increase menstrual equity and #endperiodpoverty.
As a token of our appreciation, the top three winners will receive special GrassROOTS tees, and the first-place in-person winner will also receive two tickets to the Roots Picnic.
Early registration is $20.00 until March 31st, with prices increasing thereafter. The first 50 registrants, whether for the live or virtual race, will receive a commemorative t-shirt.
Join us on Strava to support your training and stay connected with the GrassROOTS community. For any inquiries, please contact David Coughlin at [email protected] or 215-917-5025. Please contact David if you have a group you would like to register in a single transaction.
Let's unite under hashtags #rootsrockrun5K #investingirls #endperiodpoverty and tag @grassrootsfound to spread the word and make a difference together.
