"Kalahan was born on October 9, 1998 in Concord, NH. He was an inquisitive child who was curious to know the world around him. Like many children he enjoyed playing, laughing, and watching his favorite movie "Toy Story." Many memories were made while hiking the many trails of the Concord area and beyond, and it's on one of these trails that he acquired the nickname "Dragonfly." Sadly, on March 11, 2001 Kalahan passed away in his sleep of what was later categorized as Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood (SUDC).

Similar to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), SUDC is a diagnosis of exclusion which is determined only after all known medical causes have been ruled out. It occurs in children 12 months and older with the cause of death remaining unknown." Kraig Emery (Kalahan's father)

All online registration fees will be donated to The SUDC Foundation.

The SUDC Foundation is dedicated to raising awareness, funding, and advocating for research into Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood (SUDC), while providing support to affected families. As the only organization worldwide focused on this issue, it aims to prevent future tragedies and support those grieving.

    Key Mission Pillars:

Awareness: Promoting understanding of SUDC among the public and professionals.

Research: Advocating for and funding scientific research to understand and ultimately prevent SUDC.

Support: Offering free, trauma-informed support, including counseling and resources, to families worldwide.

The foundation strives for a future free of SUDC, supporting over 2,000 families in 25 countries.

    Ryan’s Run: A 5K for Recovery & Hope

We are honored to present Ryan’s Run, a community 5K dedicated to celebrating the life of Ryan McDermott, a loving father, son, brother, and friend. Ryan’s journey with substance use was long and difficult, but it never defined who he truly was. He was known for his kind heart, his adventurous spirit, and his deep love of music. Music was the soundtrack of his life, and he often shared it with those around him as a way of connecting, lifting spirits, and creating joy.

Although his battle with substance use was painful, programs like those supported by the New Hampshire Coalition of Recovery Residences (NHCORR) gave him years of sobriety, stability, and happiness. Those were years filled with family, laughter, and memories that will be cherished forever.

While we grieve the loss of Ryan, we also celebrate his legacy. He would be so proud and so happy to know that an event like this is happening in his honor, bringing people together to support recovery and give others the same opportunities for hope and healing that he once had.

    About the Cause

Proceeds from Ryan’s Run will support the New Hampshire Coalition of Recovery Residences (NHCORR), a nonprofit that helps certify and support safe, sober living homes across the state. These homes give people in recovery a stable place to live, rebuild, and thrive.

Unfortunately, almost everyone today knows a friend, loved one, or co-worker who has been affected by substance abuse. Even if this run saves one life, it is all worth it.

Every registration, donation, and step taken at Ryan’s Run will directly help more people on their path to recovery.
