Routes
We have made an Option A and Option B route for 2026 based on being able to use the Blue Ridge Parkway or not. Our goal is to go back to our normal route with the Parkway and Heartbreak Ridge, but we are at the mercy of the BRP. The section that we use is scheduled to open up in the fall of 2026. However, the area that we use has no damage and we are hoping that we can get permission to use this for the event.
Once we know our final route, we will update this information. We are trying to be as transparent as we can be to keep you informed and for you to realize the issues we're dealing with from the damage from Hurricane Helene.
5/28/2026 Update
Option A was not possible as the Parkway is still closed and they wouldn't make an exception to allow us to ride on the section we use for ORAMM. However, they said they are looking forward to welcoming us back in 2027 once the section has opened (which is supposed to be the fall of 2026). Now that Lower Heartbreak opened back up, we made a First Choice in the maps below. We're still waiting on approval but don't see why this wouldn't be approved since it is a slight change from what was already approved with Option A and Option B. If for some crazy reason that our First Choice wouldn't be approved, then we'll use Second Choice (aka Option B)

It's Back!
The Slam the Dam 10K is back! As most of you know, Chimney Rock and Lake Lure were devastated by Hurricane Helene in 2024.

Unfortunately, the Lake Lure Triathlon will have to wait another year as the lake is still not up to proper standards for safe swimming.
NOTE: This is a difficult course with lots of elevation changes.

This will be the last race in our series.
This will be our 7th year at the state park, and we look forward to offering another great time in the great outdoors. As with all our races, we like to offer racers a little bit of everything. This race will be no different: a bushwhacking O-course, single track and some road mountain bike riding, and some scenic paddling.
Teams of 1-4 will travel together along the course. The objective of the race is to gather a punch from as many Check Points (unmanned flags in the woods) within the allotted time. The team with the most points in the least amount of time wins.

WHAT IS SIDEWALK HOPE?
Sidewalk Hope is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a mission to create a positive impact in the lives of children in the heart of our city and the communities in which they live through the hope of Jesus Christ. Sidewalk Hope is a mobile children’s church that takes church beyond the traditional four walls in a big yellow truck ~ right out to the sidewalk where children live and play in their own community!
WHAT DOES SIDEWALK HOPE DO?
Sidewalk Hope currently serves 300-350 children and teens (ages 2-17) each week through weekly visits right in their own communities. Our big yellow truck rolls out each week (year-round) to the sidewalks in four housing developments that are known to be underserved areas of concentrated poverty. We build relationships with the children and teens weekly through fun activities, singing, Bible lessons, food & snacks, and prayer time. In 2025, we were able to provide 750 backpacks full of school supplies and 750 Christmas Blessing bags filled with items such as blankets, toiletries, candy, Bibles or scripture activity books, and toys to children in need.
Throughout the year, Sidewalk Hope faithfully serves by providing weekly food bags filled with snacks and fresh fruit for the children. We offer leadership activities and field trips for teens, sponsor and send up to 25 teens to Camp Grace each summer, and provide extra food during the summer months when school meals are unavailable. Additionally, we distribute Bibles, toiletries, blankets, coats, hats, gloves, and food boxes to meet urgent needs. Sidewalk Hope is committed to meeting not only the spiritual needs of the children and teens we serve, but also their physical and emotional needs — all as a way to share the full love of Christ.
This year, Sidewalk Hope is celebrating 11 years of service to the youth in Spartanburg's community and we are preparing to expand into the Greenville area soon! By regularly meeting children where they live, personally investing in their lives, building long-term relationships, presenting the Gospel, and demonstrating the love of Christ in accessible ways, Sidewalk Hope is able to bring hope to an underserved population of children. Currently, there are no other organizations doing this type of ministry in our area.
HOW WILL THIS RACE HELP?
The proceeds from The Amazing Grace Race will directly benefit the children and teens served by Sidewalk Hope all year long. Join us for a morning of fun with your family and friends — and make a lasting impact in the lives of some truly amazing young people!
Mark your calendar and register TODAY!
While not required, we invite you to consider making a donation along with your registration. Your investment will yield a return beyond measure as we share the love of Christ with the next generation.

Join the excitement of the 20th Annual Ache Around the Lake, a yearly running event that unfolds across the picturesque landscapes of Lake Lanier, spanning both Landrum, SC, and Tryon, NC. This unique race allows participants to traverse the scenic beauty of two states in a challenging 8K course, covering 4.97 miles of hilly terrain. While not ideal for setting personal records due to its undulating nature, the course promises a thrilling and demanding experience that will put both seasoned and novice runners to the test.
The Ache Around the Lake race kicks off with an initial descent, setting the stage for a journey filled with challenging gradients. Brace yourself for GRUNT #1, the steepest hill at just over 1/4 mile into the race, offering an early test of endurance. While this may be the most intense incline, subsequent hills will keep your legs engaged, creating a demanding course that even the most resilient runners may find themselves walking. Aid stations are strategically placed at mile 2 and again around mile 4, providing crucial support to participants facing the unique challenges of this scenic yet demanding race around Lake Lanier.
Ache Around the Lake isn't just a run; it's an immersive experience that takes you through the heart of two states, showcasing the natural beauty of the surroundings while pushing your physical limits. The Rotary Club of Morganton, with the sponsorship support of UNC Health Blue Ridge, will present their First Annual Zombie Run 5K and One Mile Family Fun Run on October 10, 2026 at the Courthouse Square in downtown Morganton, NC. The morning will start at 9:00 AM with participant check-in with the Family Fun Run (no chasing Zombies in the Fun Run, but they may be lurking along the way) starting at 10:00am and the 5K Zombie Run starting at 11:00. The run will be followed by an After Party at Courthouse Square with Big Daddy's Food Truck & Kountry Girl Bakery & Arepitas Food Truck on site along with Zombie beers and an Oktoberfest brew from Sidetracked available for purchase.
What is the Zombie Run? Who wants to run just a simple 5K? In a Zombie Run, you run a 5k while avoiding the advances of the Zombies!! Runners are equipped with Velcro belts holding 3 flags and the goal is to finish the run with as many flags as you can. Zombies are stationed intermittently throughout the route and they will try to steal the runners’ flags. Flags will be turned in for prizes. In addition, there will be overall 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes for those who manage to finish with the fastest times and most flags. In a world with Zombies, running fastest, out in the lead, may not be the best strategy to preserve your flags - there is something to be said for not drawing attention to yourself.
Timers will be stationed along the route shouting out times; a timeclock will be located at the finish line; and volunteers will be at the finish line sorting finishers.
What is the Family Fun Run? This run is for anyone who wants to be part of the festivities but doesn’t want to run 3.1 miles or interact with Zombies. It’s a great opportunity for families and friends to run…or walk…together.
What happens after the runs? There will be an after party with food and music back at the starting pavilions - a fall festival atmosphere to round out the day. Two food trucks will be on site: Arepitas and Big Daddy's Food Truck & Kountry Girl Bakery. Sidetracked Brewery will be selling Zombie and Oktoberfest beers. There will be activities and games, music, and fun for all.
What is the cost to participate and what is included? Registration for the Zombie Run 5K starts at $30. After September 1, registration cost increases to $35. Registration costs increase again after October 1 to $40. Registration for the Family Fun Run is $10. Fun Run participants receive two special gifts they can collect after the run. Zombie Run participants are assured a long-sleeve t-shirt through 9/25, 2026.
Where do the proceeds go? The Rotary Club of Morganton raises funds to distribute to organizations and agencies that help the community. The funds raised through this event in 2026 will be awarded to Burke County Habitat for Humanity and The Enola Group.
