Greetings! The 10th Annual Chad Lovette Memorial Trail Run Hosted by numerous friends and family will be held on 9/27/2025 at Cub Creek Park in Wilkesboro, NC!
For our 10th year, we will be featuring RaceResult chip timing to improve timing accuracy and facilitate near-live results posting. Signs with race-specific QR codes will be posted near the start/finish line so you can scan them with your mobile device to access results. As a result of this upgrade, your race bib will include two RFID tags affixed to the back of the bib. Please take care not to fold or crinkle the tagged bib as this can damage the RFID tags and potentially cause you to be missed by the timer’s HF readers.
Afterparty plans are to be announced later.
We look forward to welcoming newcomers and past participants for this fun trail run. Also available -- the virtual fun run/walk option for those that are not able to make it in person (but who really want that T-shirt!) Proceeds go to the American Cancer Society, specifically The Steel Magnolia's Battle/Necessary Relay for Life Team.
A donation of $150 or more gets your name on the back of the race T-shirt and two free T's. Please reach out to [email protected] for more info.
We now have Facebook and Instagram pages (@ChadLovetteMemorialTrailRun) and hope that you will follow us tag us in a photo or video when completing your run/walk. Interested in being a race sponsor?
NOTE:
Registration: Registration will be available on-line through September 26 at noon. Day of race registration will be available, but no T-shirts will be available for registrations after September 14. The Virtual Trail Run/Walk will be active through October 4th to allow the donation portal to remain open.
More about our beloved Chad Lovette and the inspiration for this run: Chad was a native of Wilkes County and passed away on July 9, 2016 after an extended battle with brain cancer. Chad was a graduate of Wilkes Central High School and the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. He was a singer/songwriter and most enjoyed playing music with his brother, Shay, and with his band, Green House.. His passions were traveling far and wide, hiking, surfing, camping, and living large with his family and friends. This race is in honor of Chad's love for life, the outdoors, music, and fellowship. Join us!

We are back on the Boone Greenway Trail for the 16th Annual High Country Turkey Trot! Choose from a 5K or 10K timed race or an untimed Fun Run/Walk.
Taking place on Thanksgiving morning, The High Country Turkey Trot is open to competitive runners, casual joggers, walkers, and fun runners. Far from just a race, the event is fun for the entire family and includes a live DJ, photo-staging area, costumes, and a picnic shed full of food and hot drinks.
NEW FOR 2026: We've updated the course route by reducing elevation gain and improving the terrain. That means less hill climbs and more stable footing! The 5K and 10K races will take you on a scenic trip over mixed terrain (gravel, grass, and paved) through the woods via The Greenway and Kennedy Trails. Official course map to revealed soon!
The Fun Run/Walk will utilize all paved trails throughout the park - making it accessible to everyone, including leashed dogs, strollers, wagons, wheelchairs, and other mobility aids.
The High Country Turkey Trot offers prizes for top 3 Men's & Women's finishers in the 5k & 10k timed runs, Finisher Medals for all runners in the 5K and 10K timed runs, and custom High Country Turkey Trot T-Shirts for all entrants*.
All participants are asked to bring non-perishable boxes or canned food items!

HKY 100 Mile Ultra Run
Experience. Camaraderie. Competition.
Hickory’s inaugural 100 Mile Ultra Trail Race is for teams of 2 to 10 people and soloists. This demanding course puts you or your team racing around the clock challenging the limits of endurance, pace and strategy. The course consists of a 4-mile route taking you on double-track farm trails (believed to be old moonshine roads), to single track hiking trails onto the newly created Aviation Trail, then through Winkler Park into the Hickory Crawdad’s stadium where the start/finish line welcomes you back. Over 15,500 feet of elevation awaits you for this 100-mile challenge. The route consists of approximately 70% trails and 30% paved. There are several short steep climbs and two longer climbs at .65 miles each (see course map). The course will be well marked with cones, arrow signs and reflective tape for night running. Keep in mind this course will consist of off-road trails that include hills, descents, tight turns, roots, rocks and other trail type features.
Description
While the date remains the same, the events and course are all new this year. Though we appreciate everyone who took part in the 5K, 10K, 10M, and fun run in the past, attendance never took off. So, we're going to try a different type of race that in some ways adds more flexibility and possibilities for the participants, but is also easier for us to manage. For 2026, we're switching the Lake Rhodhiss Trailfest to be a 3 hour, 6 hour, and 12 hour event where your objective is to get as many miles as possible on a 3ish mile loop that includes two miles of trail and one mile of crushed cinder greenway. The flexibility for the participants is that if you aren't interested in maximizing your miles, you can now come with a goal distance you'd like to reach and sign up for the event that allows you time to do so. For example, if you've always wanted to do a 50K, you could sign up for the six hour and run at a 5 mph pace to reach your goal. Or, you could sign up for the 12 hour and even hike your way to your goal.Lake Rhodhiss Trailfest is still the kickoff event for the Great State Trail Day the following weekend. More details will be coming out soon, but there will be space for you to put up a 10x10 tent or table at the start/finish area and an assortment of food and beverages will be available during the races. We also hope to have live music on the pavilion stage at times during the race. Whatever it takes to motivate you into "one more loop."
Event's current local time: 4:45 AM ET
About Grandfather Mountain, sitting at 5,945 feet tall is the most iconic mountain in all the Southern Appalachians. It is rich in scenery and bio-diversity and home to some of the most gnarliest trails you can find on the east coast. So what better place to hold a pure mountain race?!?!The Grand-Further Mountain Run is the premiere mountain race in North Carolina. The roughly 14 mile course will climb Grandfather Mountain a total of two times from both sides of the mountain. The terrain is unforgiving, extremely technical, but most of all, astounding! Fixed ropes and ladders are even placed in certain sections of the trails to assist in climbing the tallest mountain in the Blue Ridge Mountain Range. This race is not for the faint of heart of the weak of knees. It demands your best and your utmost respect.Prior trail running experience required to participate. Course Description From the start you will run approximately a quarter mile of pavement to thin out runners before hitting the
singletrack of Grandfather Mountain's Trail system. The first mile or so will be mellow, but after that the climbing and extremely technical terrain begins. Ladders and fixed ropes are placed on near vertical slopes to help aid in climbing the mountain near the summit. Expect roots, rocks, and boulders almost every step of the race. The Numbers Distance: ~14 MilesElevation Gain: ~ 4,200 feetTime Limit: 6 hoursMiles of Single Track Trail: ~ 13.5 milesMiles of Pavement: ~ 0.25 miles Race Rules Stay on marked trails, DO NOT CUT SWITCHBACKS!Must carry mandatory gear at all times.Use proper trail etiquette when passing other runnersNo alcohol allowed within park boundariesBe courteous to other trails usersNo litteringObey any race official's request Need To Know -Weather conditions can change drastically on the mountain. Click on the waitlist button above on this
page to view where you stand currently on the waitlist.- What are my chances of getting off the waitlist? If you are in the top 15 of the waitlist, your chances of getting in by race day are very high, but not a full qaurantee. You should go ahead and be training as if you are in the event. If you are lower than 15 down the waitlist, your chances diminish the further you are down the list. Historically, we've never exceeded inviting any more than 25 people off a waitlist and that is very high, but know that not everyone accepts a registration invite and many decline. So you could be number 35 on the waitlist, but still get in by race day.- When will I know that I got off the waitlist? An email will be sent to invite you to signup for the race off the waitlist after a spot opens up. You will have 48 hours to confirm your entry before the invite will be removed- How soon should I expect an invite? Most likely you will not receive an invite until the final few weeks before the event up to two
days before the event. Refund Policy 75% refund granted until June 1st. 50% refund granted until July 24th No refunds will be granted within 30 days of the event for any reason. We do not allow transfers or deferments in any case at any time. Event's current local time: 4:00 AM ET
