calendar! We will give out a free entry to both the 50k and half marathon winner of the contest. About Us Tanawha Adventures grew out of a desire to give back to the very land and trails so many of us enjoy. Our goal is to Run. Inspire. Conserve. Our hope is that our participants become inspired by the scenic beauty surrounding them and join us in efforts to conserve and protect our wild lands and trails. We accomplish this by designing beautiful courses, partnering with local conservation and advocacy groups, and allocating a substancial percentage of our profits to the cause. Tanawha Adventures was created in 2016 by Brandon Thrower, a passionite lover of trails and public land. After gaining experience in directing ultra marathon races over many years, Brandon saw a great opportunity to make a greater impact in the area of funding for conservation efforts. What better way to create more advocates for public land and recreation by creating events that put people in the places most needed

of conservation. We hope that you leave our events inspired to stand up and make a difference and know that your support of our events leaves a lasting impact on the protection of our trails and wild lands. Waitlist FAQ - How do I know my order on the waitlist? Click on the waitlist button above on this page to view where you stand currently on the waitlist.- What are my chances of getting off the waitlist? If you are in the top 15 of the waitlist, your chances of getting in by race day are very high, but not a full qaurantee. You should go ahead and be training as if you are in the event. If you are lower than 15 down the waitlist, your chances diminish the further you are down the list. Historically, we've never exceeded inviting any more than 25 people off a waitlist and that is very high, but know that not everyone accepts a registration invite and many decline. So you could be number 35 on the waitlist, but still get in by race day.- When will I know that I got off the waitlist? An

email will be sent to invite you to signup for the race off the waitlist after a spot opens up. You will have one week to confirm your entry before the invite will be removed- How soon should I expect an invite? Most likely you will not receive an invite until the final few weeks before the event up to two days before the event. The Rotary Club of Morganton, with the sponsorship support of UNC Health Blue Ridge, will present their First Annual Zombie Run 5K and One Mile Family Fun Run on October 10, 2026 at the Courthouse Square in downtown Morganton, NC. The morning will start at 9:00 AM with participant check-in with the Family Fun Run (no chasing Zombies in the Fun Run, but they may be lurking along the way) starting at 10:00am and the 5K Zombie Run starting at 11:00. The run will be followed by an After Party at Courthouse Square with Big Daddy's Food Truck & Kountry Girl Bakery & Arepitas Food Truck on site along with Zombie beers and an Oktoberfest brew from Sidetracked available for purchase.

What is the Zombie Run? Who wants to run just a simple 5K? In a Zombie Run, you run a 5k while avoiding the advances of the Zombies!! Runners are equipped with Velcro belts holding 3 flags and the goal is to finish the run with as many flags as you can. Zombies are stationed intermittently throughout the route and they will try to steal the runners’ flags. Flags will be turned in for prizes. In addition, there will be overall 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes for those who manage to finish with the fastest times and most flags. In a world with Zombies, running fastest, out in the lead, may not be the best strategy to preserve your flags - there is something to be said for not drawing attention to yourself.

Timers will be stationed along the route shouting out times; a timeclock will be located at the finish line; and volunteers will be at the finish line sorting finishers.

What is the Family Fun Run? This run is for anyone who wants to be part of the festivities but doesn’t want to run 3.1 miles or interact with Zombies. It’s a great opportunity for families and friends to run…or walk…together.

What happens after the runs? There will be an after party with food and music back at the starting pavilions - a fall festival atmosphere to round out the day. Two food trucks will be on site: Arepitas and Big Daddy's Food Truck & Kountry Girl Bakery. Sidetracked Brewery will be selling Zombie and Oktoberfest beers. There will be activities and games, music, and fun for all.

What is the cost to participate and what is included? Registration for the Zombie Run 5K starts at $30. After September 1, registration cost increases to $35. Registration costs increase again after October 1 to $40. Registration for the Family Fun Run is $10. Fun Run participants receive two special gifts they can collect after the run. Zombie Run participants are assured a long-sleeve t-shirt through 9/25, 2026.

Where do the proceeds go? The Rotary Club of Morganton raises funds to distribute to organizations and agencies that help the community. The funds raised through this event in 2026 will be awarded to Burke County Habitat for Humanity and The Enola Group.

How do I register for this event? Register here now! Send your questions to [email protected].

    Description

While the date remains the same, the events and course are all new this year. Though we appreciate everyone who took part in the 5K, 10K, 10M, and fun run in the past, attendance never took off. So, we're going to try a different type of race that in some ways adds more flexibility and possibilities for the participants, but is also easier for us to manage. For 2026, we're switching the Lake Rhodhiss Trailfest to be a 3 hour, 6 hour, and 12 hour event where your objective is to get as many miles as possible on a 3ish mile loop that includes two miles of trail and one mile of crushed cinder greenway. The flexibility for the participants is that if you aren't interested in maximizing your miles, you can now come with a goal distance you'd like to reach and sign up for the event that allows you time to do so. For example, if you've always wanted to do a 50K, you could sign up for the six hour and run at a 5 mph pace to reach your goal. Or, you could sign up for the 12 hour and even hike your way to your goal.Lake Rhodhiss Trailfest is still the kickoff event for the Great State Trail Day the following weekend. More details will be coming out soon, but there will be space for you to put up a 10x10 tent or table at the start/finish area and an assortment of food and beverages will be available during the races. We also hope to have live music on the pavilion stage at times during the race. Whatever it takes to motivate you into "one more loop."
