Blackbeard’s Revenge 100: Ultra Marathon on the Outer Banks

Blackbeard’s Revenge 100 is one of the most unique ultra marathons on the East Coast—a 100 Mile, 100K, and Relay race held March 21–22, 2026, on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. This point-to-point ultra takes runners, ruckers, and relay teams across the entire length of the OBX, from Corolla to Hatteras, along 100% paved coastal roads. Expect wind, salt air, and a finish line celebration like no other. Whether you’re chasing your first buckle or adding another ultra to your logbook, Blackbeard’s Revenge 100 is a race that tests grit, builds community, and creates unforgettable stories.

    Why Run Blackbeard’s Revenge 100?

Participants travel from across the country to take on this OBX ultra marathon. Here’s why:

    • Epic Distances – Choose the 100 Mile (Corolla to Hatteras), 100K (Nags Head to Hatteras), or team up for the Relay.

    • Unique Coastal Course – A fully paved, point-to-point route with endless ocean views, notorious winds, and legendary pirate bridges.

    • Pirate Spirit – Every runner adopts a pirate name for their bib. Costumes, signs, and salty humor are part of the tradition.

    • Inclusive Atmosphere – Solo runners are joined by relay crews, ruckers, and Ainsley’s Angels chariot teams. Whether you’re racing the clock or savoring the miles, you belong.

    • Community & Camaraderie – Runners, crews, and volunteers become one big ultra-pirate family.

    • Finish Line Celebration – Cross the line at Hatteras and raise a glass at The Wreck Tiki Bar.

    • Ever-Evolving Experience – Each year, the race improves based on runner feedback, with a virtual post-race happy hour to gather ideas.

What to Expect on the Course

The Outer Banks are as unpredictable as the sea. One year it may be 80 degrees, the next it may be 20. Winds can shift from calm to brutal in minutes. The road is flat, but it stretches endlessly, testing your resolve and your mental grit. Runners don’t complain—they expect the challenge and embrace it. As race director Libby Swor says:

“The race is salty, and treacherous, and fickle. And no one’s complaining: they expect that, and understand they’re there for the challenges.”

    The Pirate Experience

This isn’t just an ultra marathon—it’s a full-on pirate adventure. Runners (a.k.a. Ultra Pirates) pick their own pirate name for their race bib, meaning you might be chasing down Captain WeirdBeard, running alongside Mad Molly, or finishing next to Luke the Lionheart.

    Who Should Run?

Blackbeard’s Revenge 100 welcomes a wide range of athletes:

    • Seasoned ultra runners chasing a buckle or podium.

    • First-time 100 Milers looking for a flat but mentally tough challenge.

    • 100K runners ready to step up their distance.

    • Relay teams eager to share the miles with friends.

    • Ruckers and chariot teams adding their own determination and grit.

This race is approachable for back-of-packers and exciting for competitive athletes—everyone is part of the same ultra-pirate crew.
