This race commemorates Ron Daws, a 1968 Olympic marathoner and one of the original seven founders of Run Minnesota. Daws, a Minnesota running icon, trained over this same course. The race began in 1979 and was renamed as a memorial to Daws in 1993.

The Hopkins Raspberry Run was founded in 1964 by the Twin Cities Track Club founder Patrick Lanin. Today, the 5-mile follows the same traditional route around Shady Oak Lake before finishing on Main Street prior to the Hopkins Raspberry Festival parade. The Main Street Mile was introduced in 2010 and features a flat, fast course straight down Main Street with a shared finish for the 5-mile.
