What: A coach-led 9 week training program designed for those wishing to get into the wonderful world of running. The goal of the program is to build confidence and safely build experience with the goal of running a 5K race!
Who: Whether you are brand new to running, used to run and want to get back into it, or just looking for a community of like-minded individuals to share your running journey with, Let's Get Running is for you!
When: Mondays at 5:30 PM. Starting March 16th through Monday May 11th.
The program will meet once a week for 9 weeks with an experienced coach leading the way. Groups workouts will take place Mondays starting at 5:30 PM on March 16th and will continue through Monday May 11th, with our goal race on Saturday May 16th. Plan to spend two additional days per week to complete your running homework on your own.
Where: Kestner Waterfront Park. Meet in the large parking lot, we'll be warming up together and running on the sidewalks.
Goal Race: All participants will receive complimentary registration into the Spring Awakening 5K on May 16th.
Additional Perks: All participants will receive exclusive discounts at Queen City Running Company during the duration of the program.

The Spring Awakening 10k & 5k Run offers a scenic run along the Houghton canal and an opportunity to kick off your running season! With the snow melt and warmer temperatures of late April & early May, we all will feel a spring awakening! The course is an out and back on the bike path, giving you the full experience of the Keweenaw Waterway. All races will begin and end at Kestner Waterfront Park in Houghton.
The Spring Awakening 5k & 10k is a great way to jump into spring and early summer training. For those looking to complete the Canal Run Half-Marathon, our race can serve as a stepping stone into longer training and races! For those seeking a shorter distance, our 5k is a perfect match! If it's your first 5k or your winter slumber has gone on too long, follow along with our 6-week 5K training program leading up to the race.
Proceeds from this race will be donated to Special Olympics Area 39.
Don’t forget the kids! We are also hosting a Spring Awakening Kid's 1 Mile Dash

All racers that participate in the 5k or 10k runs will receive a Spring Awakening 5k/10k race medal and race t-shirt!
Awards
The top three male and female finishers of the 5k/10k receive awards!

An awards ceremony will be held after the race!
Timing
This year we will be using the services of Superior Timing to time this race! Chip timing will be provided for the 10k and 5k races!
Bib and Packet pick-up
Bib & packet pick-up will take place starting at 8:00am in the park pavilion. Aid station will be provided for the 10k run.
Race Route
All races will start at the bike path connected to Kestner Waterfront Park's Parking Lot and continue east along the canal path.
5k
Route will be a traditional Out and Back with the turnaround being just past East Houghton Waterfront Park
10k
Route will be a traditional Out and Back with the turnaround being near Sandpiper Drive. Aid station will be provided at the turnaround.
1-Mile
Route will be a traditional Out and Back with the turnaround taking place underneath the lift bridge.

Meeting 2 days per week for 5 weeks (Monday's and Wednesday's from 5:30-6:30pm), a team of coaches led by Queen City Running Company - Houghton's Youth Program Coordinator, Clayton Sayen, will be providing a positive atmosphere where athletes can be inspired and motivated through the discipline of running. We will break down the fundamental skills of running to meet the needs of all those participating. Our techniques will be taught through specific stretching, drills, bodyweight strength exercises, and of course RUNNING! Our Mission is to provide a positive atmosphere where youth athletes can be inspired and motivated through the discipline of running. Additionally our youth will learn the principles of leadership, respect, and teamwork as well as portraying healthy habits to last a lifetime. Included in our program is 10 1-hour sessions, post practice snacks, program T-Shirt, and discounted entries into the races listed below!
Located at the Houghton High School Track our camp will feature drills and activities located on the track, turf, and the state-of-the-art Michigan Tech Trails. Parents are welcome to spectate their kids participation in the camp activities! Any general questions regarding the program are encouraged to be asked!
