    Down for Gravel

    Date: Saturday, September 5, 2026

Location: 101 Applegate Lane, West Newfield, Maine

    Event Overview:

Down for Gravel is a gravel cycling event that brings riders together for a challenging and rewarding day on the backroads of western Maine. The start and finish are situated on the picturesque Mirror Lake, providing a scenic backdrop for the day’s ride. Routes wind through forest roads, rolling terrain, and offer stunning views—including glimpses of Mount Washington on clear days. Whether you’re looking to push your limits or enjoy a solid day of riding with great company, this event is all about community and the shared experience of gravel cycling.

Riders can choose from multiple route options to match their goals for the day. Each course is designed to provide a mix of smooth gravel, rugged sections, and plenty of climbing. The ride is untimed—this is about the experience, not the results.

    Sunday Cyclocross & Camping:

The weekend kicks off on Saturday with a gravel ride, trail running race and cyclocross clinics. Offering fast-paced action and a great opportunity to warm up or spectate before Sunday CX race. Riders are encouraged to camp on-site Friday and Saturday night to soak in the atmosphere, connect with fellow cyclists, and make the most of the weekend. The event setup includes a large open field with plenty of space for camping and parking, creating a festival-like setting leading up to race day.

    Post-Ride Gathering:

After Down For Gravel on Saturday, stick around to share stories, enjoy wood-fired pizza, and relax with a cold beer from Frost Beer Works. A post-ride swim in Mirror Lake is highly recommended—there’s no better way to cool down after a long day on the bike.

West Newfield is conveniently located about an hour’s drive from Portland, Maine, and less than two hours from Boston, making it an easy weekend getaway for gravel riders from across the region.
