Get ready for a course that showcases the very best of Wisp’s Appalachian terrain. Your adventure begins at the resort base, climbing swiftly up the wooded ski-runs and service roads into the heart of the mountain. You’ll traverse flowing single-track, cut across wide double-track snow-cat paths, and ride high on ridge trails that offer sweeping views across Deep Creek Lake.

At the summit the vista opens up: panoramic mountain views, crisp air, and a rewarding vantage point before the real fun begins. From there, you’ll dive into the descent - rock-strode, tree-lined corridors, and flowing ski-trail connectors that funnel you back toward the village.

The final stretch brings you flying down toward the resort base, finishing at the heart of Wisp Resort where an incredible post-trek after-party awaits. Cold drinks, tasty food, music, and a vibrant community of outdoor enthusiasts will make crossing the finish line even sweeter.

Choose your distance: 7, 14, 21, or 28 miles, and complete in 10 hours to earn the coveted UltraTrax Grey Wolf Medal. Toss on a 10, 20, or 35-lb weighted vest or ruck and unlock bonus finisher swag + serious bragging rights. The course will be extremely well marked.

The Miles for Melanoma 5K is more than just a race — it’s an opportunity for us to show support for an amazing father, husband, coach, and person: Stephen Champlin.

Join us at Broadford Park in Oakland, Maryland, a beautiful lakeside park that is shaded and perfect for the 5K. Feel free to stay afterwards, enjoy the playgrounds, and make a day out of it!

We hope all of Stephen’s family, friends, sports teams, and kids he has coached over the years will be able to join us. The morning will begin with a prayer for Stephen, showing him just how much he is loved and that we are all standing with him in this fight.

Through treatments and the toughest days, Steve continues to show up for his family and his teams. He leads, encourages, and inspires all of us. Now, it’s our turn to show up for him.

This special event is organized by Bentley Wise, Steve's 9-year-old nephew, who wanted to do something meaningful to support his Uncle Steve. Bentley is leading this effort to make sure his uncle knows he is not fighting alone.

Whether you run, walk, or cheer from the sidelines, your presence matters. Let’s fill Broadford Park with encouragement, hope, and love for Steve and his family.

All proceeds will go to the Champlin family and toward melanoma research.

Let’s show Uncle Steve how much we care.

Let’s stand beside him in this fight.

    Champlin Strong!
