Saturday, May 23th, 2026 starting at 7:30am for the mini-biathlon

    Location: Danenberger Family Vineyards

    Events:

    Mini-Biathlon - 1mile run - 7.5 mile bike - Starts at 7:30am

    5K Run - Starts at 8:30am

    Biathlon –5K run and a 15-mile bike - Starts at 8:30am

Team Biathlon – Split the Biathlon and one person runs the 5K and the other bikes the 15 miles

Packet pickup is on race day from 6:30 am to 7:15am for the mini-biathlon and reopens again after the mini-starts and is open until 8:15am on race morning.

Look for the check in tent on the southside of the Winery near Irish Road.

Parking will be on the east side of the winery. You can use the restrooms inside the winery as well as the outside porta-potties.

Safety is always a concern so remember to follow the rules of the road. Run on the left side and bike on the right side. We will have Ham Radio operators patrolling the roads and helping with local traffic if any. We don't expect to see many cars along the route because there are only a few homes out there.

Start time for the 5K is 8:30 am for all participants. The route is a flat, out and back on Irish Rd.

You are chipped timed so line up according to your intended pace and your time starts when you cross the start line. When you are finished head down to the winery for some snacks after you collect your finisher's medal. There will be some breakfast food for sale as well. So your friends and family can eat too.

Biathletes after finishing your (1M for the mini) 5K lap turn towards the bike corral near the finish line. Your transition time starts when you cross the finish line. Remember you must walk your bike out of the corral and have your helmet on before you can leave the corral. Your transition time ends and bike lap starts when you cross the start/finish line going east on Irish Road.

Full Biathlon: After completing your first loop you will be going across the finish line again so we can capture your split time. Your final time is the sum of all your laps: 5k lap; T1 is your transition time to get your bike and back out to the start/finish line, Bike lap 1 is your first 7.5 mile loop and Bike lap 2 is your second 7.5 mile loop.

We follow these rules for the transition area and bike route:

    1. First come first served for positions on the bike racks in the transition area. Because of the size of the event just about any position will get you in and out quickly.

    2. Keep your gear as close to your bike as possible. Using a small towel or folded larger towel to set your gear on so your stuff is visually separated from others.

    3. All bikers must wear a helmet when leaving the corral area.

    4. Wait until you get on the road to mount your bike.

    5. No drafting other bikers (maintain 3 bike lengths from a rider in front of you). If you are going to pass, do so quickly (15 seconds) and pass on the left side.

    6. Ride on the far right side of the road except to pass or avoid a road hazard.

We will have awards for top finishers and age brackets for all events.

Ride the legacy. Celebrate the journey. Right here in Springfield.

54 Years of Tradition. 100 Years of an American Icon.

In 2026, the Capital City Century proudly celebrates its 54th year — alongside the 100th anniversary of historic Route 66.

Both are woven into the fabric of Springfield.

Hosted by the Springfield Bicycle Club, the CCC has become a cycling tradition that spans generations — families, seasoned riders, first-time cyclists, and volunteers who return year after year. Much like Route 66 itself, the CCC represents movement, connection, resilience, and the enduring spirit of the open road.

All routes begin and end at the Sherman Athletic Club, where riders roll out onto the Heritage Route 66 Multiuse Trail before heading into the scenic countryside on low-trafficked roads. It’s more than a ride — it’s a journey through the heart of Springfield’s history.

    Ride Distances

    • 100-Mile Century

    • 66-Mile Route (a metric century + 3 miles in honor of Route 66)

    • 40-Mile Route

    • 20-Mile Route

Each route features a fully stocked rest stop with drinks and snacks to keep riders fueled and supported.

The Capital City Century is not a race — it’s a celebration of endurance and community. All riders receive a timing chip to track their personal accomplishment, but the real reward is crossing the finish line together.

Mechanical support will be available at the Sherman Athletic Club, and SAG drivers will be on route throughout the day to assist riders as needed — because at the CCC, no one rides alone.

After the ride, gather with fellow cyclists for a post-ride meal and one beverage of your choice (soda, beer, or wine) as we celebrate a tradition that continues to define our community.

For more than five decades, the CCC has brought riders together. For a full century, Route 66 has brought travelers through Springfield.

    Looking to Volunteer?

There are many opportunities to volunteer at the Capital City Century. Volunteers receive a t-shirt and a comped entry into the 2027 Capital City Century.
