    The Cause

    International Rett Syndrome Foundation purpose is to support and encourage medical research to determine the cause, treatment and cure for Rett syndrome, and to provide informational and emotional support to families of those with Rett Syndrome.

    About Rett Syndrome

    Rett syndrome is a rare non-inherited genetic neurological disorder that affects 1 in 10,000 females (and even more rarely in males) and begins to display itself in missed milestones or regression at 6-18 months. Rett syndrome leads to severe impairments, affecting nearly every aspect of life: ability to speak, walk, eat and breathe easily. The hallmark of Rett syndrome is near constant repetitive hand movements while awake. Cognitive assessment in children with Rett syndrome is complicated, but we know that they understand far more than they can communicate to us, evidenced by their bright and attentive eyes, and their ability to express a wide spectrum of moods and emotions.

    For 20 years, we have relentlessly pursued advanced and comprehensive research to transform the lives of all those affected by Rett syndrome. We are focused on delivering treatments and ultimately a cure for Rett syndrome while empowering families with the resources, connections and encouragement they need to thrive.

  • CAC Root Beer Float Run

    Join us for the CAC Root Beer Float Run on Saturday, June 13, 2026, and race to raise funds and inspire hope! All participants can celebrate their accomplishment with a complimentary root beer float after completing the course!

    Location: Busse Woods Grove #27, 331 S Arlington Heights Rd, Elk Grove Village, IL 60007

    Race Time: 7:30 AM start time for 10K & 8:00AM start time for 5K

    Highlights:

    • This is a family-friendly event! Kids and adults of all ages are welcome. All children can participate in the 50-yard dash, and registration for the 5K is open to kids through age 12 at discounted pricing. We recommend all kids 12 and under run with an adult.
    • Strollers welcome! (Runners pushing strollers will be asked to start near the back.)

    • This run is NOT a pet-friendly race. Our police department partners will have comfort dogs in attendance, so we ask that you keep furry friends at home for this race. Thank you for your understanding!

    • 5K and 10K registration includes an event t-shirt and custom finisher medal. Register by Friday, May 23 to guarantee your size!
