To ride coast to coast, mile after mile, hand-off after hand-off, carrying the torch of hope and determination to every state along the route — raising $25,000 in donations to directly support MS research, advocacy, and patient services.

Join us for the Inaugural RUCKUS H.E.R.O. RUCK 4 FREEDOM!
Ruckus H.E.R.O. 4 Freedom is an honorary Ruck where the community comes together with our Active-Duty Military, Veterans and First Responders to do something uncomfortable to show our Armed Forces the gratitude we have for our Freedom.
Based on a Military tradition, participants will have the option to wear a weighted backpack and participate in a 5K Ruck Walk. For those that don't want to wear the ruck you can sign up to run or walk the 5K.
RUCKUS H.E.R.O. 4 FREEDOM will give all of us the opportunity to do something hard to give back to those who have given so much.
As a community we are strong, our Freedom is safe, and this will give us the opportunity to show our service members, family and friends that we are willing to give our time and be a little uncomfortable to say, thank you.
I invite you to join us, be a sponsor, volunteer with a friend to push a veteran, and be part of the day that will show our gratitude for the freedom we all love.
The official charity of RUCKUS H.E.R.O. 4 FREEDOM is Fort Des Moines African American Military Officer Museum. Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® Marshalltown is a united gender movement where men will be a part of the solution to ending sexualized violence.
The mission of Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® is to co-create a united gender movement where men will be a part of the solution to ending sexualized violence by marching a mile in heeled shoes. Men participating in Walk a Mile in her Shoes® will provide their own heels for the event. Women are encouraged to wear tennis shoes.
This year's event is Saturday June 21, 2025, with registration beginning at 10 AM at the Iowa Veterans Home [Sheeler Hall entrance].
From the Walk a Mile in Her Shoes National Organization
Each year, an ever-increasing number of men, women and their families are joining the award-winning Walk a Mile in Her Shoes®: The International Men's March to Stop Rape, Sexual Assault & Gender Violence. A Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® Event is a playful opportunity for men to raise awareness in their community about the serious causes, effects and remediations to sexualized violence. First You Walk the Walk: There is an old saying: "You can't really understand another person's experience until you've walked a mile in their shoes." Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® asks men to literally walk one mile in women's high-heeled shoes. It's not easy walking in these shoes, but it's fun and it gets the community to talk about something that's really difficult to talk about: gender relations and sexual violence.

Welcome to the annual SLEEP IN SLEEP OUT! This at-home event will be held Friday, November 13th - Saturday, November 14th.
SLEEP IN SLEEP OUT for Youth Homelessness will take place in person at Wayward Social and virtually anywhere you want. During this event, community members will brave the elements together and sleep outside, demonstrating solidarity with our homeless and unsheltered youth whom we work with day in and day out. Will you join us in raising awareness of the ever increasing homelessness in our community?
This event will bring awareness to National Youth Homeless Awareness Month and provide needed funds for local organizations [in Atlanta(GA), Celina (TX), Chicago(IL), Dubuque(IA), Marshalltown (IA), Milwaukee (WI), Sarasota (FL), & Waseca (MN)] providing services for youth experiencing homelessness or unsheltered.
Getting involved is simple! Click the ‘Sign Up’ button and register to take part in this event. Your registration will give you access to the zoom room to connect us during the night of your at-home sleep out! *
Where do I sleep? The choice is yours! Sleep in your backyard, build a fort in your living room, sleep at a local campground or your back porch just for one night - a place where you do not typically sleep.
If you would prefer an in-person experience, we will participate at Wayward Social in Marshalltown. Please bring a sleeping bag and tent or boxes to sleep in.
Who can partake in the event with me? Why not make it a family or neighborhood affair and get your community involved too? You can choose to:
Register family members using the Sign up button
Send this link to your neighbors, friends, co-workers to join in too
Set up your own personal fundraiser (as part of the registration process, you can set up a fundraising page) and get your family and friends to sponsor you to sleep in the quirkiest of places.
By registering for this event, you will help raise awareness and your fundraising efforts, vital funds to give our clients safe shelter and the opportunity to live a better life.
Together, we will make a difference; together we will find everyone a home.
