ARE YOU READY TO CHASE THE SHARK?
The race starts at 6:30 a.m. Check-in will begin at 5:30 a.m. in the park. There is no separate packet pick up, so pick up your bib on race day.
Start: The Shark Chase will begin on the beach at Kailua Beach Park near the boat ramp. The start line is actually on the beach. Faster runners should move to the front and walkers towards the back to avoid collisions.
Course: Out and back course. The wave-washed course follows the shoreline to a turnaround point near the Kaneohe Marine Corps Base, then back to the start area. The entire course is on the beach. Shoes are optional - you will probably run through some shallow water depending on the tide and your desire to make a splash. There will be a "shark" to chase - the shark gets a head start. Can YOU catch the shark?
Finish: Awards will be presented to the top overall male and female finishers as well as the top three in 5-year age groups.
Pot Luck & Talk story after the race! All participants are invited to remain in the park after the race to eat and talk story. Bring a dish to share (not required but nice). Food items may be dropped off before the race start at the check-in tent or retrieved from your vehicle after the race but all food items should be made available to set up during the awards ceremony. Then we EAT! An ice cooler will be available to store items requiring cold storage, as needed. Please use disposable containers if possible. Plates, cups, flatware, and beverages will be provided. A limited number of beach mats will be available, or you may bring chairs or beach blankets to eat, talk story, or just hang out in the park or on the beach. Bring the whole family!
Time, date, and/or location can change before registration opening.

Come to Kailua Beach Park for a scenic romp through Lanikai! Bunch start at the Lanikai Monument on the hill entering Lanikai, then two counterclockwise loops of the Lanikai Bike Path with the finish near the Lanikai Boat Ramp. Faster runners should move to the front and walkers towards the back to avoid collisions.
When you finish, enjoy free shave ice by Island Snow! Yummy and refreshing! Make it a beach day and experience beautiful Kailua Beach or world-famous Lanikai Beach!
This 8K run/walk is in memory of Daniel Levey and there is a special award to first finisher in his age group. Daniel Levey was a young man who died 23 years ago at age 19 in a hiking accident, the day after completing the Lanikai 8K in 2003. This race is held in his memory and generously supported by his parents, Dr. Joyce Cassen and Norm Levey.
Parking is available in the Boat Ramp area as well as in Kailua Beach Park.
Two opportunities to get your packet: (1) the day before the race (Saturday) 1:00 to 3:00 PM at The Running Room, 819 Kapahulu Ave. or on (2) race morning starting at 5:30 a.m.
Results will be available almost immediately online at timelinehawaii.com. Awards will be presented at the race to the top three male and female finishers as well as the top three in 5-year age groups.
