Apex Predator Summer Showdown – 2026
The Hunt Expands. The Mission Continues.
The Apex Predator Summer Showdown returns in August 2026 with an expanded format that opens participation to personal boats, and multiple dive outfitters as well as expanded hunt areas. This two-day conservation-focused tournament brings together the dive community to combat one of the greatest threats to Florida’s reefs — invasive lionfish.

Tournament Format
The Summer Showdown (2 Day Derby)
The Summer Showdown Derby runs both Saturday and Sunday and is open to:
• Personal boats
• Divers using their own selected dive outfitters
Divers will compete in teams of two to remove as many lionfish as possible. Each participant will receive a commemorative Apex Predator challenge coin as well as a long sleeve hooded SPF shirt. Participants may hunt anytime between daylight Saturday morning and 4:00 PM Sunday, submitting fish for official measure and count on Sunday. Hunters may hunt anywhere in Florida, but all fish must be presented during the official count and measure ceremony on Sunday August 30th for the fish to count.
Mini Showdown – South Florida Diving Headquarters
In addition to the main derby, a Mini Derby will be hosted at South Florida Diving Headquarters. Participants will board a chartered dive boat and head out to designated dive sites to hunt. Divers will compete in teams of two to remove as many lionfish as possible during a two-tank dive. Each participant will receive a commemorative Apex Predator challenge coin as well as a long sleeve hooded SPF shirt. • Participation limited to divers on the chartered boat
• Mini Derby awards at approximately 1:30 PM Saturday
• All fish caught during the Mini derby will be counted toward the Summer Showdown Derby totals if the participant has registered for both derbies.
Packet Pickup & Check-In
All participants for the Summer Showdown must attend packet pickup and check-in on Saturday morning in Pompano Beach or virtually at a Friday night MS Teams meeting.
This applies to both Main Derby and Mini Derby participants.

Summer Showdown Awards
Main Derby awards will be presented Sunday at 5:00 PM following the official close of the tournament. Fish will be turned in in Pompano Beach.

Mini Derby awards will be presented Saturday at 1:30 PM following completion of the single dive.

This is an out and back course at the Pompano Air Park @ 1103 N Federal Hwy Pompano Beach .... registration is at the south end of the Galuppis' restaurant parking lot.... costumes are encurraged... this event is run / walked on the sidewalk around the airport ... this is a non-scored event, each participant will receive a club T-Shirt, Finisher Medal and a signature bib. Walkers that are doing the 10K please start your walk so that you finish by 9AM that gives you an hour and a half. Details:
Parking is to the right when you enter the park and is available on a ‘first come, first serve’ basis. Once you are parked, the event is a short walk over a small foot bridge on the North side of the park.
There will be a designated Packet Pickup area for last minute pickups. There is no on-site registration, however, online registration will remain open until 6:55AM. Online registration is mobile device friendly!
The course is a 5.4 mile route around and over the two hills in the park (Two 2.7 mile loops).
Results will be available on-site, however, you are encouraged to sign up to have your results texted to you upon completing your event.
Awards will be offered to the top THREE male and female finishers as well as the top three in each age group. Overall awards are based upon gun time (gun to chip). All other awards (age groups) are based upon chip time (chip to chip). Awards are for BOTH the 5.4 Mile and 2.7 courses!!! (Virtual participants are not eligible for awards)

Don’t worry if you are not a competitive runner, we will be offering special awards for the funkiest outfits too! And make sure to get down to the music…there may be something special for the best dancers we see in the crowd!
It is our intention to hold a safe and enjoyable race experience for all participants. Should anything come up that might compromise our ability to fulfill that commitment (severe weather, government restrictions, etc…), we will automatically transfer all in-person registrations to the virtual race.
Participants in the virtual event will have their swag items sent to the valid US-address used during registration within 2 weeks of the in-person event. Please allow for transit time. We ship via the United States Postal Service.
How to get there:
Vista View Park is in western Broward County.
From the East: Take 595 West to exit 2&3 towards Hiatus Road. Keep to the left as you exit. Continue to Flamingo Road and make a left (south). In about 1.4 miles, make a right onto Orange Drive then make a right on SW 142nd Avenue. Vista View Park is 0.25 mile down on the left.
From the South: Take I75 North. Exit at Griffin Road and head east for about 0.5 miles. Turn left over Winkopp Bridge and then turn right on Orange Drive then make the first left (on SW 142nd Avenue). Vista View Park is 0.25 mile down on the left.
From the North: Take I75 South and exit at Griffin Road. Head east for about 0.5 miles. Turn left over Winkopp Bridge and then turn right on Orange Drive then make the first left. Vista View Park is 0.25 mile down on the left.
From the West: Take I75 South and exit at Griffin Road. Head east for about 0.5 miles. Turn left over Winkopp Bridge and then turn right on Orange Drive then make the first left. Vista View Park is 0.25 mile down on the left.
Please note: The entrance to the park can get backed up. We are covering the park entrance fee to help reduce the backup, but please plan to arrive early enough to allow for some delays entering the park.
Race Details
The 2026 Osprey Trail Race will be held at The Oxbow Eco Center in Port St. Lucie! Runners will start at the Eco Center Parking lot, then run along portions of the Heritage Trail, Gopher Trail, Blue Heron Trail, Spoon Bill Trail, Scrub Jay (here's your mud!) Trail, Racoon and Otter Trail. Trail maps are located at the trail head at Oxbow Eco Center. Remember, practice good trail etiquette when visiting Oxbow and Leave No Trace!

We Are A Cup-less Race
To reduce our environmental impact, we are a cup-less race. You must bring something to carry water in. A handheld, a vest, half a coconut, the skulls of your enemies, we'll leave it up to you.
