Details (en español below)
When: Saturday, September 5, 2026
Location: Pulaski Park, St. Koble Drive and Maple St, Holyoke, MA 01040

New to bike racing?: Hydra Cross is a great event to try out bike racing or cyclocross for the first time. There is a free intro to cyclocross racing clinic at 8:00 am on race day that is taught by local, friendly bike racers. Learn the basics to help you enjoy your race. Beginner races following shortly after -- novice men should sign up for the 9:00 am category 4 and beginner race and novice women should sign up for the 11:00 am women's category 4 and 5 race. Just a note on lingo, brand-new racers and novices start as 'category 5' racers. Since we are a USA Cycling sanctioned race, you will need a license but can purchase one when you register at http://bikereg.com/hydracross for $15. If you have any questions about the clinic or racing, please just shoot us an email at [email protected] and we'll respond with what you need.
Course Description: A fun, fast, twisty course that is primarily flat but has some surprising uphill kickers. After a slightly uphill, wide start from the "Legion Shelf," the course heads towards Holyoke's "Muscle Beach" and the hilly southern end of the park. The course design takes full advantage of the elevation to make riders work–but then also brings rewards with a swooping downhill that cuts back and forth across the hill. We have some stinging off-camber sections that will require your skills, with the most challenging and decisive sector coming at the end of the course (see Youtube videos below for a preview). The course runs the full length of the long, linear park with ample opportunities for spectating, with continuous announcing throughout the race by the voice of NCC Hydra Cross 2025, Jake Kravitz. Mountain and river views abound.
Equipment Recommendation: File treads (if dry) and all-around tires will work well for most riders. The course is a mix of grass, dirt, and some pavement. New to cyclocross? Mountain bikes, in any shape, work fine for getting started racing. Road or touring bikes that allow for 32mm tires also work fine.
Race Atmosphere: Come for the race, stay for the atmosphere. Our beer garden and picnic area are family-friendly. There is a playground, splash pad, and popular skate park as well. Our race is known for its good vibes and community-driven feel.
The excellent Thai Chili Street Food Hub will be serving food in the American Legion Parking lot at lunch time. As usual, expect the American Legion to be serving up coffee, breakfast items, beer and alcohol throughout the day, in addition to lunch and snack items.
Thai Chili Food Truck, 100 State St Stockhouse 122, Ludlow, MA, United States, Massachusetts 01056, 24 April
Want to do a second race? Great, the second race is just $15, just register for two races at the same time when you sign up.

In order to bring this race to you again this year, we can't do it without volunteers. Seriously, we can't do it without you, and we appreciate you believing in the value, community, and camaraderie that this grassroots race brings to Holyoke and NECX.
Please sign up to volunteer where you can. Volunteers will receive special “staff only” swag this year!
We pride ourselves on taking great care of our volunteers. Friday course setup volunteers will be provided with lunch. All setup, reg, and course maintenance volunteers will receive a free (refunded) race entry AND invite to the volunteers-only after-party (including a free beer ticket) hosted right on-site at our incredible hosts, the American Legion, at 4:30pm or as soon as the course tear-down is complete.
We need folks to stick around and help us tear down the course immediately after the last race--if you stay to tear down the course, dinner from Pizza d'Action (Holyoke's best, with ample vegan and vegetarian pizzas) will be provided for you on-site while the last race is in progress so that you can stay and help with a full stomach. Volunteers who work registration or course repair jobs during race day will also be provided with lunch.

This is the FREE Independace Day ”Reach the Beach” NS Trail Gravel Race/Ride. There will be a controlled rolling start for 2 miles to the first gravel segment which starts at the NS Terminus in
Douglas, MA to roll into the start of the ride/ race. All gravel segments will be New Strava segments with entrants times posting after the race. Awards will be given for winners for the OA finish in each catagory. This is a FREE Event and all we ask is that all participants make a Tax deductible donation to the “Tunnels to Towers” organization www.t2t.org that supports Our Veterans and First Responders. Or you can make a donation to the Whitin Community Center www.whitincommunitycenter.com. This is a completely Non-Profit event to give back to those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our FREEDOM!
The GPS track is provided. It follows the entire NS trail from Douglas, MA 78 miles to Blue Shutters Beach in Charlestown, RI. The Buck Hill section is “by passed” because it’s unridable. Everything on the Track can be ridden by a skilled rider. There is a mix of road, gravel, cart roads, single track and some short “hike a bike” sections. Any bike Gravel or Mountain Bike with no wider than 2.1 tires will be a good choice to best manage the course. The woods are pretty buggy so, bring bug repellent.
There will be Post race refreshments (sandwichs and cold drinks logistics won't allow grilling at the finish) available at the finish and will be held at Blue Shutters Beach. Changing and shower facilities are available at the Beach. Meet your Family after the race. You do need to pay for a day beach pass but, after 5 PM entry is free. I anticipate a finish around 4 PM.

Sloppy Jon’s 2026
Sloppy Jon’s is a community-focused, mixed-surface ride hosted by It’s Just A Hill. This is not a race. There is no podium. It is a social ride built around challenging routes, good
company, and bringing people together through bikes.
Start Location (New for 2026)
Sloppy Jon’s will start and finish at the Woody Lowden Recreation Center in Foster, RI.
After three years of rolling out from Jon’s house, the event is taking a small step forward and using a proper start location. This gives us more space, better parking, and a smoother day for everyone while keeping the same community-first feel.
Please respect the recreation center, property, and neighbors. We want to be invited back.
Registration & Capacity
Sloppy Jon’s is a free event. We do not want money to be a barrier to entry or participation.
Registration is limited to 150 riders. Please only sign up if you genuinely plan to attend. If your plans change, we ask that you withdraw your registration so someone on the waitlist can take your spot.
A waitlist will be enabled once the event fills. If space opens up, riders will be admitted in the order they joined the waitlist. We appreciate everyone helping keep this fair and accessible for the whole community.
Routes & Support
There will be five total route options, consistent with previous years, including multiple gravel routes and paved options.
All gravel routes will pass the IJAH x NBX rest stop, with hydration and snacks provided by those organizations. Some routes will also pass classic local general stores, including Oneco Market. Additional route details, distances, and elevation will be shared closer to the event.
This is a mostly self-supported ride. Riders are responsible for navigation, hydration, nutrition, and mechanical support. That said, all routes will include opportunities to stop at convenience stores along the way.
Route changes will be allowed prior to the event, pending availability.
Event Support
Putting Sloppy Jon’s together does come with real costs. Renting the race center, providing ride snacks, and covering basic logistics all add up. We believe the time and money spent are worth it for the local cycling community, and optional donations help make that possible.
If you are able to contribute, thank you. If not, no problem at all. Show up, ride your bike, and be part of it.
Post-Ride
After the ride, everyone is invited to stick around for a post-ride potluck, featuring signature Sloppy Joe sandwiches and dirt cups for dessert.
Event Details
Routes, timing, and final details will be shared closer to the event date via Strava and the It’s Just A Hill channels.

Welcome to Race Day XC. We are thrilled to introduce the Rotation Engineering Berkshire 40. The original Race Day XC marathon! The Berkshire 40 is located on a beautiful 1000 acre farm in the
Berkshires. The race lap is a 10 mile loop of mostly single track, with a few sections of double track and a small stretch of private dirt road. No dangerous public roads, no multi use public trails, this closed course loop was 100% cut and built for the Berkshire 40 event.
The single track is premium packed Berkshire loam with tons of flow. Although this property abuts Mt Greylock there isn't a ton of “climbs” that are notable. We have built a lot of trails over the years but this stuff is some of our favorite of all time! We will share the final gps/strava file the week before the event.
