Come out and show your love for stormwater and the environment while enjoying the great outdoors! Don't miss out on this opportunity to make a difference and have a blast doing it. See you at the starting line!

SEMSWA, Splash and the Cherry Creek Stewardship Partners are excited to announce this year's Cherry Creek Race for the Watershed event! This year’s race will take the form of a 5K walk/fun run and will be held on Saturday, May 9th at 10 am at the Smoky Hill Shelter area at Cherry Creek State Park. SEMSWA and Cherry Creek Stewardship Partners are inviting our partner organizations within the Cherry Creek Basin to participate and extend the invitation to any interested staff members, family, or friends!

    Race Location:

Smoky Hill Shelter, Cherry Creek State Park

(Enter through 4201 S Parker Rd, Aurora, CO 80015)

    Race Course:

The 5K course is a "out-and-back" course that begins on the north side of the Smoky Hill Parking Lot. Participants will run or walk an out-and-back loop in order to complete the 5k course. From the start/finish line, participants will head north along the Smoky Hill trail and then continue onto the Campground trail after approximately 0.3 miles. Runners will then cross Tower Loop road near 0.35 miles and then continue along the Campground trail. At 1.2 miles, participants will turn right onto the Front Range Trail. Runners will continue along the Colorado Front Range Trail and cross the bridge over the Cherry Creek dam spillway and then turn around at mile marker 1.55. Volunteers will be present to direct participants at the turnaround point. Runners will return back along the same route and re-enter the north side of the Smoky Hill parking lot to cross the finish line.

See the race course and "Course" Page. Also linked below:

The 7/20 Foundation is proud to present the 5th annual Hero’s Journey 5k Run/Walk. This race makes its way through Aurora's City Center and the High Line canal trail with a start and finish in the 7/20 Memorial Reflection Garden. For those over 21, this race includes admission into the 7/20 Foundation's annual beer festival.

The Hero's Journey represents any person who faces a challenge, encounters struggles to overcome it, and returns home a Hero. We hope this 5k is a transformative experience as you run/walk together; whether you are a veteran runner or this is your first 5k. We chose to start the run across from the theater and end in the 7/20 Memorial Reflection Garden as your return home/finish line to honor the journey from tragedy to hope. It is the perfect place for each of us to honor and celebrate our collective accomplishment as well as our heroes from the July 20, 2012 tragedy.

Proceeds raised through the event will go toward the Zack Golditch Opportunity Scholarship.
