Inspired by "Hot Lapping" in Motorsports, Hot Laps is a true test of SPEED.

Teams of 4 will race against the clock to see how many laps they can complete around Riverview Park in 45 minutes. There can be only 1 Champion.

The Course will be a Flat & Fast Loop around Tumbleweed Park, approximately 1/3mi in Distance. The exact path will be revealed as we get closer to the event!

Parking

Free Parking for the event is available at several locations around Tumbleweek Park. We recommend Parking at the Tumbleweed Recreation Center

Rules

• You must stay on course. Any course-cutting will result in disqualification

• Every team member must run 1 lap to be eligible for awards

• Batons must be exchanged in the designated area near the start/finish line

• Only 1 runner / lap / team. No pacing or crewing allowed on course

• Cheering and supporting others is highly encouraged

• Giving your best is mandatory!

Who We Are: Healthy Kids Running Series is a five (5) week running program in the spring and fall for kids Pre-K through 8th grade. Each HKRS Series takes place once a week and offers age-appropriate running events including the 50 & 75 yard dashes, the 1/4 mile, the 1/2 mile and the 1 mile run. Kids will earn points for each race they complete based on their finish.

Pricing: The registration fee covers the entire five (5) weeks of the Series which includes race bibs for each week, a runner shirt, a finisher medal and any sponsor giveaways. Registration is non-refundable and non-transferrable. Online Early Bird registration ends three weeks prior to the first race event.

Challenger: This Series offers a Challenger Division which is an adaptive 75 yard race for children with disabilities and/or special needs. This allows for parents, siblings, and friends to be on the course with runners to provide support as well as supportive devices such as crutches, braces, wheelchairs, etc. to be used by runners.

Single Day Racing: Single day race registration opens one hour prior to the start of each race. The registration fee covers one single race to be run on the day of registration. ALL single day registrations should be completed onsite at the race location. Single day racers will have the option to upgrade to the full series (see tab on the left side of the page for instructions). There is a strict no-refund and no-transfer policy.

Awards: All participants receive a medal on Week 5! Trophies will be awarded to the overall top finishers in each of the divisions listed below (broken out by boys and girls respectively):

What is the Mountaineer 5k?

The Mountaineer 5k is a 5-kilometer race organized by the Summit Academy Parent Teacher Organization.

We welcome, runners, walkers, and strollers, but no pets allowed.

The race benefits Summit Academy Mountaineers. We also want to raise health and fitness awareness, and this is a great opportunity to start or continue your wellness journey!

Registration Cost:

Now - January 18, 2026 = $25.00

January 19, 2026 - February 18, 2026 = $35.00

February 19, 2025 - March 18, 2025 = $45.00

March 19, 2025 - March 28, 2025 = $50.00

Overall and Age Group Awards that will be custom made by students in the Dobson High School Ceramics Department. Awards Ceremony will begin at 9am.

Please note any race-related items (shirts, medals, etc.) will NOT be mailed to those that do not attend and no refunds will be given.

The Course:

We will start at the Summit Academy Junior High Track, run one loops around the track then onto the canal. The majority of the race will be on the canal and finishing at the Junior High Track.

Packet pick-up will be morning 3/28 of the race starting at 6:30am.

Race Day Information:

No roller blades, skateboards or motorized devices are allowed on the run or walk courses.

We run rain or shine. There are no refunds or transfer due to weather. We will be starting promptly at 8am.
