Race starts at Peavine Parking Area.
The race opens on a fast, forgiving service roa.d before dropping sharply downhill and rolling into a short, gentle climb just beyond the bridge. From there, the course turns straight up pinestraw-covered singletrack, cresting the ridge and diving back down into a flowing descent that winds its way toward the Peavine Gorge Overlook.
You’ll then tackle a technical, rocky downhill to the creek, followed by narrow, technical singletrack as you move downstream along the water. After crossing the creek, hands-on rock steps force you upward as you head back upstream. This section is technical, and downright gnarly.
As you grind deeper up the gorge, Peavine Falls comes into view, marking the heart of the course. From there, you’ll cross the creek again and climb hard once more, scrambling up to the cliffside trail. A final bridge crossing leads into gentler singletrack, but don’t relax just yet—an extended climb awaits.
Once you top out on West Ridge, the trail finally opens up into runnable terrain, setting you up for a fast, rewarding finish back toward the parking lot.
Come get your Peavine shirt, and badge to prove you did one of the gnarliest 5ks in the Southeast!

The 2nd Annual Alabama Pride Hike is back — bigger, bolder, and even more intentional.
What started as the first Pride event ever hosted at an Alabama State Park is now becoming a movement — and 2026 is where it levels up.
This year, we’re proud to partner with REI, bringing their local hike guides to lead three thoughtfully designed routes:
-Beginner Route – Welcoming, social, and perfect for first-time hikers, families, and anyone wanting a relaxed, community-focused experience. 3 miles
-Intermediate Route – A steady climb with rewarding views and that “I did that” feeling at the finish. 5 miles
-
Advanced Route – Technical, challenging, and built for those who want to earn their Pride with sweat and grit. 8 miles
-
ADA-Friendly Option – Because belonging isn’t optional. We are committed to creating space where everyone can participate, move their body, and be part of this day. 1.5 miles
This isn’t just a hike.
It’s visibility in outdoor infrastructure.
It’s community in motion.
It’s Pride where it hasn’t always existed before.
Expect vibrant energy at the trailhead, music, local partners, photo moments, and the kind of welcoming atmosphere that makes you immediately feel like you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be. Whether you’re an elite trail runner, a parent with kids, brand new to hiking, or simply showing up in support — there is a place for you here.
Last year we made history.
This year we build momentum.
Join us for a day that celebrates movement, nature, inclusion, and the simple power of being outside together in Alabama — boldly, safely, and joyfully.
Let’s fill these trails.
Registration for guaranteed shirts ends May 22, 2026

Race start is at North Trailhead
Beginning with a short service road start, runners will quickly sort themselves before entering the single track of Blue Trail. After some rolling uphill, you will take a hard left up one of Oak Mountain's gnarliest climbs, and my favorite training hill, Outback Highway! Once summitted, good news, the most grueling stretch is behind you. But you still have 2.5 miles of rugged Alabama terrain. After the next, shorter, and gentler hill, you will crest over onto one of my favorite top-outs with boulders towards a slippery pine straw downhill. Next is a walk-worthy climb to your halfway point, your water station, and the crown of this race: King's Chair! After a quarter mile of mostly runnable trail, you will come to your second toughest, but final climb to Eagles Nest. From there, it's about a half mile of technical downhill till you get back to Red Road for a fast finish. But make sure you watch your ankles here!
So, come test your grit with the Southeast's toughest 5k. ~1,100 feet of climbing, and descending over only 3.1 miles, on Oak Mountain's rugged terrain.
Race start is at North Trailhead

Death by 5k is coming back to Oak Mountain State Park! The first four years have been awesome so let's do it again!
RunStrong Event's signature 24 hour challenge, Death by 5k requires participants to run ten 5ks, starting each 5k spaced 2.5 hours apart. The first 5k starts at 8 am, and subsequent 5ks start at 1030, 1, 330, 6, 830, 11, 130, 4, and 630 am. Participants need to be present at the start of each 5k, and have that 5k finished prior to the start of the subsequent 5k. This challenge is designed to test participants mentally and physically with physical fatigue, sleep deprivation, and running in the dark. (Headlamps, hand lights, or some other form of illumination will be required)
Death by 5k Oak Mountain will start and finish near the Dogwood Pavilion at the South Trailhead.. The course will start on the Lake Trail, then continue onto Rattlesnake Ridge, making a counterclockwise loop back to the start.
In between each 5k, participants will be able to sleep in their vehicles in the parking lotor to set up tent camping in the grass camping field across the road from the parking lot. Tent camping sites will be first come first served and will be $20/night with a maximum of 4 people per campsite. People wishing to camp will need to stop at the Oak Mountain park entrance and fill out the standard camping paperwork. This camping will be available both Friday and Saturday nights of race weekend. The tent camping area has a bathroom and at least 4 electrical poles that will be available to everyone camping. (You'll have to share them, in other words) Truck campers and camper vans can be parked in the parking lot, but must take up only one parking spot. There is no camping fee for the parking lot, just for tent camping in the green camping space.
Participants will be required to pay the $5 entry fee to Oak Mountain unless they have a season pass or have paid for a campsite, which includes this fee.
There will be 5 meals, each including hot food, served over the course of the event. Meal times will be 830a, 130p, 630p, 1130p, and 430a., along with plenty of snack food and drinks throughout the event. You will not go hungry at a RunStrong Event..
Participants will receive an event shirt. Finishers will receive one of our coveted, custom made coffins.
Registration will be limited initially to 200 participants. After that, a waitlist will be enabled and we will open spots if/when they become available or if we decide to expand the field.
