The Mad Mallard 3, 6, 12 and 24 hour trail race......AT NIGHT
That's right we're going all night, all day, and into the night again this year!!!
Do you have a long race coming and need some night training? Do you need to test out some night gear? Or just want to test yourself!?
This is your race!
Runners will start at 7 p.m.- that's right, 7 p.m., right before sunset- and run a 3-ish mile trail loop along the Duck River and through the cane thickets, cedars groves, and hardwood forest of Henry Horton State Park for 3, 6, 12 or 24 hours. The loop is 3 miles, has roughly 144ft of climb, and is completely runnable, with the majority being single-track dirt trails.
Although the course will be marked with glow sticks and reflective markers, you should still bring a headlamp or a light source.
We will have one main aid station at the start/finish line stocked with snacks, cold water, sodas, watermelon and Tailwind hydration...open throughout the night.
We'll fire up the grill when coyotes start howlin and hollerin!
This will be a laid-back, grassroots event. Family, friends, and spectators are always welcome. Pop a tent and stay for a while!
Please no dogs on trail, but definitely welcome in camp as long as they are leashed and well behaved!
I've heard rumors that the Scal-a-wag Trail Running Club will be hanging around to pace, motivate, and help out through the evening! I'm sure you will see some familiar faces!
Each runner will receive a finisher medal and swag bag!
Awards will be given to the Female and Male runners who accumulate the most laps in the 3, 6, 12, and 24-hour races as well.
There will be a Mad Mallard Belt Buckle for anyone that can run 100miles inside the 24 hour time allowance.
There will also be $100 for anyone who can top Jack Lee's 104 miles in 24 hours!
We also plan to bring back the hidden ducks on course and add on a few extra!
This race is hosted by our non profit, The Sgt David Hierholzer Fallen Warrior Foundation. All proceeds and donations generated go to the purchase of backpacks, school supplies, and clothes for school children in the community.
Thank you for your interest in our race and for helping us keep a dream alive.
Never surrender, never go easy!
Gabe Cross - RD
What's better than running by yourself? Running with a bunch of crazy fun people, that's what! Spend your Saturday morning running or walking along the beautiful Tennessee River, with a bunch of the funnest people you've ever met.
Available distances are 5K, 10K, and half marathon.
Other important stuff:
Due to limited parking and space, prices will increase as the race fills up. There IS a cap.
There are toilets that flush and sinks with running water and soap.
This is a running and walking event that is MUCH more about camaraderie and fun, not competition. Everyone gets a finisher medal, but the only "award" is the coveted Sloth Society medal that goes to the person who completes the race last. (You must earn it HONESTLY!)
You will come back to the start/finish/super aid station area multiple times throughout the race. This means you're welcome to leave a drop bag to access your own personal goodies and you can shed layers as you warm up. This is also a good place to reapply sunscreen, address any potential issues such as blisters, etc.
Our races are super low-key and non-competitive; we'd prefer to race you vs. you, not you vs. anyone else. There is a 4 hour time limit for all distances. (If you're close to finishing past the time limit, we'll stick around to make sure you get a finish time and a medal - we're not in the business of taking your hard work away from you, nor do we want you to feel rushed in the heat - but we do have to be checked out of the pavilion.)
Your registration fee includes entry into the race distance of your choosing, race swag in the form of a beach/pool/lake/shower/we don't actually care what you use it for towel, finisher medal for all distances, and our usual aid station setup including Gatorade, water, Gu, banana smoothies, unlimited ice, all kinds of snacks and post-race food.
Our race swag has to be ordered by May 27th. If you register AFTER that date, we cannot promise you a beach towel, because our crystal ball never gets the prediction of last minute registrations correct, but we will make sure you get a swag item because that would be really mean not to give you something.
As with any other race put on by any other company, registration fees and add-on fees are final and are not refundable or transferable for any reason. The waiver that you agree to as part of your registration indicates your acceptance of this policy, which is standard in the industry. Prices are subject to change. The races will go on rain, snow (ha!), or shine. We will delay or cancel due to lightning or any other unsafe conditions.
