Join us on May 31, 2026 for the North Bay Steps for Hope Charity Run in support of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada (LLSC).

In North Bay, blood cancer has touched far too many lives. Friends, neighbours, colleagues, parents, children—our community has felt the impact of leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma, and other blood cancers. We've seen the fear, the long treatments, the uncertainty, and the incredible strength it takes to face it. We've also seen hope—through advances in research that are saving lives and improving outcomes right here in Canada.

That's why we're coming together for the Steps for Hope event, run on May 31, 2026. This family-friendly event is our chance to honour survivors, support those currently fighting, remember those we've lost, and raise vital funds for the LLSC. The LLSC drives life-saving research, provides patient support, and funds breakthroughs that give families a fighting chance—progress that's making a real difference for people in our own community and across the country. Create a team, spread awareness and show support. Who are you running for?

Join us for a joyful celebration of community and hope:

    • A fun run/walk - Lace up and and move together in solidarity. There will be a 1km and 5km distance, run down the Kate Paceway

    • A community BBQ with delicious food

    • Fun fair-type activities for kids (games, face painting, coloring contest and more)

    • A Silent auction featuring great local prizes

    • 50/50 fundraiser.

    • Most importantly time to connect, celebrate survivors, and build momentum for continued research and support.

This is more than an event—it's North Bay showing up for North Bay. A day to laugh, play, remember, and give back, all while funding the science that turns hope into reality for those affected by blood cancer.

    1. Register to participate in our community fun run/walk event on May 31st and join the celebration: Sign up to participate in the run/walk, then stay for the BBQ, fun activities, silent auction, and 50/50 fundraiser. Bring your family and friends—this is a full day of community connection and support!

    2. Sponsor the event: You can donate when registering for the event, or visit https://secure.llscanada.org/site/TR?fr_id=1742&pg=team&team_id=22157 to make a donation directly. Every contribution funds research and support services—no amount is too small. Official Tax Receipts will be issued.

    3. Donate an item to the silent auction: Help make the event even more exciting by contributing a prize or item (e.g., gift cards, local experiences, goods, or services). All proceeds from the silent auction go directly to the LLSC to support blood cancer research and patient care.

    4. Donate food, beverages, or activities to make the event fun and memorable: Contribute food & beverage items, games, activities, inflatables, supplies, or volunteer time to enhance the family-friendly vibe. Your donation helps create lasting memories while supporting the cause.

Contact us at [email protected] if you are interested in sponsoring the event. Any contribution you make is helping in our fight against blood cancer!

Ready for a Challenge with a Twist of History?

The NBMCA looks forward to hosting the exciting Mattawa River Canoe Race (MRCR).

The 64 km Canoe/Kayak/SUP race is a demanding and challenging race. The race begins in North Bay and ends at Mattawa Island Conservation Area in the Town of Mattawa. The route follows lakes, rivers and has a few rapids. There are 12 portages along the route, which 5 are mandatory and the others are dependent on water levels and paddler ability and skill.

The 13 km race is intended to be social, friendly and fun. The course is achievable for most paddlers with only one portage. This use to be for only families and youth, and we have opened it up and added a few categories.

Fees include: registration, race management and safety, participant medal, and OMCKRA Insurance fees. If you are an OMCKRA member, you will be refunded $8.

SHUTTLE - We don't have access to a canoe trailer this year. We will have a bus that shuttles people back to the start line to pick up their vehicles. Participants will have to return to the finish line to pick up their canoes. We will have staff/volunteers at the finish line until the last canoe is claimed.

PFD's - As the race will be held in early spring PFD's will be mandatory to wear throughout the race. No exceptions.
