The Big Hurt is a multi-sport race that includes four legs and participants can race solo in Iron Division or as a relay team. Big Hurt is unique in that all transitions are at the same location, making for an all-day party atmosphere. Even better, the transition is located on the beautiful waterfront in downtown Port Angeles. Race legs include:
A 15-mile mountain bike that takes place in the foothills above Port Angeles (10-mile mountain bike, 5 miles on road downhill to downtown Port Angeles race hub for transition to kayak leg)
A 2.6-mile kayak in Port Angeles Harbor
A 30-mile road bike that goes west out of Port Angeles and crosses the Elwha River and visits Freshwater Bay, as well as the lower parts of Kelly Ridge on Dan Kelly and Eden Valley Roads.
A 10K Run, out and back on the Olympic Discovery Trail along the waterfront

Ready to embark on a running adventure in the heart of British Columbia? 🏃♂️ The Royal Victoria Marathon awaits you with a variety of distances that will appeal to all asphalt lovers: a 5K for sprinters, an 8K for those looking for an intermediate challenge, as well as the prestigious Half Marathon and the full Marathon to push your limits.
Peninsula Runners Langley Fall 2026 Half and Full Marathon run group AKA the 301 group meets twice a week on Saturday mornings and also Wednesday nights. The first Saturday being June 20th and the first Wednesday is June 17th, 2026. This session is geared towards the Royal Victoria Half and Full Marathon on October 11, 2026. We will help get you to the starting line ready and eager to finish strongly. Peninsula Runners has been successfully running run groups since we first opened in 2001. Everyone is welcome to join us!
Long runs are Saturday at 7 AM (7.30 AM for the first six weeks) while the Wednesday workouts start at either 5.15 or 6.00 PM. Wednesdays are key workouts to help you become a stronger more complete runner. You should be able to run at least 40 minutes for the half or 60 minutes for the marathon before the first long run.
FYI we also have a power walking group heading out on Saturdays for those who prefer to walk either a 10 K or a half marathon.
Cost of the program is $100 for the fall (or ask at the store about our yearly option). This includes both weekly runs and also a 15% discount on purchases at the store. You will receive two weekly emails from the store and a program outline to help guide you through the program. All runners will receive a Pen Runners shirt to run in.
Running can be challenging and fun at the same time. One of the keys to running with a group like this is that you have others to run with and help you stay motivated and get a little more out of yourself. Our goal is to help prepare you to enjoy running and to finish your goal race.
Will the RVM break records again in 2026?

Our beautiful course weaves through the quiet streets with ocean views throughout Victoria and Oak Bay.
Plus we are a Boston qualifier, Abbott World Majors ranking event, a World Athletics World Ranking Competition and more. We see many runners reaching their personal best times on our course.
A few quick facts about the event in October.
Choose your distance - Marathon, Half Marathon or 8K on Sunday, October 11, starting and finishing in downtown Victoria.
The Kids Run and 5K events will take place on Saturday, October 10, starting and finishing at Willows Park in Oak Bay. The Kids Run registration will open on February 16, 2026
There will be a course time limit of 6.5 hours for the marathon. There is no early start for any of the distances in 2026. Marathoners must complete the first 13K by 10:15 in order to be allowed to continue the marathon route. Individuals who have not passed the 13K mark by 10:15 will be given the choice to move to the half marathon event distance or withdraw from the event.
This year we have added a GREEN BIB option. This means you can register and not receive a RVM garment, but still receive a bib and your medal. You will have the option during the green bib registration to select the charity that you would like us to make a donation to as part of the Green Bib option.
Events will be capped for 2026. In 2025, the marathon and half marathon both sold out in July.
There will be no strollers or pets allowed on the course. Nordic poles will only be allowed for mobility-impaired participants.
There are no refunds or deferrals allowed for 2026. You can transfer your registration to another person up until October 7, 2026 for a fee. You can opt in to purchase Race Roster's Enhanced Refund Program.
