THE BIRDSVILLE RACE CLUB, IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE ROYAL FLYING DOCTOR SERVICE (RFDS) QUEENSLAND SECTION IS PLEASED TO PRESENT THE ANNUAL BIRDSVILLE RACES RFDS FUN RUN.

In 2026, the annual Birdsville Races Fun Run is embracing the spirit of the Outback with the theme Country & Western!

Pull on your Akubra, dust off your boots and channel your inner cowboy or cowgirl. This year's theme invites participants to celebrate the iconic country lifestyle with a fun-filled western twist. Think cowboy hats, boots, denim, fringe, check shirts, big belt buckles and a touch of country glamour. Whether you're hitting the start line as a seasoned stockman, a rodeo queen or a rhinestone cowboy, this theme is all about embracing the characters, colour and camaraderie of the Australian bush while adding a little Wild West flair to the desert.

The event is open to walkers, fun runners and serious runners alike.

All participants are encouraged to create a fundraising page to support the Flying Doctor. Registrations are now open.

If 100 people can raise $100 each we will reach our $10,000 fundraising target.

ADVICE FOR PARTICIPANTS

Please ensure you wear appropriate footwear.

Bring a hat, sunscreen and plenty of water.

Take care – go at your own pace. If unwell, slow down, walk or withdraw. Ask marshals for assistance if required.

The Simpson Desert Ultra is one of Australia’s toughest ultra marathons taking place in the heart of the Australian Outback. With distances of 160km, 100km, 75km, 50km & 25km, there is something for those new to the ultra-scene, as well as those more accustomed to the grueling nature of such events. The event takes place near Birdsville in south west Queensland on the edge of the Simpson Desert and traverses a variety of terrains. From towering sand dunes to rocky gibber plains, it will surely test the limits of each participant and allow them to immerse themselves in a truly unique part of the Australian landscape. Participants can be assured of a high level of care and safety and will no doubt remember the Simpson Desert Ultra for its big heart and vast spaces.
