    Death by 5k is returning to Memphis for year 5!

    RunStrong Event's signature 24 hour challenge, Death by 5k requires participants to run ten 5ks starting every 2.5 hours. The first 5k starts at 8 am, and subsequent 5ks start at 1030, 1, 330, 6, 830, 11, 130, 4, and 630 am. Participants need to be present at the start of each 5k, and have that 5k finished prior to the start of the subsequent 5k. This challenge is designed to test participants mentally and physically with physical fatigue, sleep deprivation, and running in the dark. (Headlamps, hand lights, or some other form of illumination will be required)

    Death by 5k Memphis will start and finish at the Tour de Wolf Pavilion at Shelby Farms, and will be run almost entirely on the Tour de Wolf trail. The course will be mostly a loop with a small stretch midway that may be out and back. Trail conditions on race weekend will determine how much is two-way traffic instead of a loop.

    In between each 5k, participants will be able to sleep in their cars or vehicles in the parking area, or to put up tents in the grass area adjacent to the pavilion. There is plenty of space for pop up or camping tents.

    There will be 5 meals, each including hot food, served over the course of the event. Meal times will be 830a, 130p, 630p, 1130p, and 420a. There will also be plenty of snack food and drinks available throughout the event.

    Participants will receive an event shirt and other race swag. Finishers will receive one of our coveted coffin awards and the pride that comes with surviving.

    Registration will be limited initially to 200 participants. After that, a waitlist will be enabled and we will open spots if/when they become available or if we decide to expand the field

The 2.5 mile Baptist Memorial Health Care promenade trail around the beautiful Hyde Lake is a great warm-up to start your day of fun here at Shelby Farms Park!     On Saturday, May 9, 2026 The Memphis In May Olympic Triathlon will be held at again at Shelby Farms Park. The 1.5K Swim will take place in Hyde Lake, The 40K Bike Route will take you around the park and the surrounding area. The 10K Run will be on several of Shelby Farms paved trails. The Memphis In May Triathlon packet pick up and all of the festivities will be at Shelby Farms Hyde Lake. The AquaBike will be available for both the Olympic and Sprint Races. You can swim and bike, then your race finishes in the transition area after after you cross the bike -in timing mat entering the transition area.

    Racers receive the 2026 Custom T shirt , Finishers Medal, and post race lunch.

    The 43rd Annual Memphis In May Olympic Triathlon would like to thank Edmond Orgill Park in Millington, TN for many fond memories of the races and the participants who have shared their time with us. The Memphis In May Olympic Triathlon was first introduced to Edmond Orgill Park in 1991, and has had the privilege to host many dedicated triathletes over the years. With the likes of Todd Jacobs, Timothy Deboom, Julie Moss, Mike Pigg, Natasha Badmann, Michelle Jones, Andy Potts, and many other professionals, and age groupers like 5 time USA Triathlon Triathlete of the year, Kirsten Sass, who have made The Memphis In May Olympic Triathlon rich in history. Shelby Farms, our new home, also hosted the IM Memphis 70.3.

    The Memphis In May Olympic Triathlon Saturday May 9, 2026 and consists of .93 Mile Swim, 24.9 Mile Bike and 10.2 Mile Run. The Memphis in May Sprint Triathlon Saturday May 9, 2025 is a sprint triathlon that consists of a 750 meter swim 11.5 mile bike, and a 3 mile run. This event is a great way to get started in the sport of triathlon with its association with the Memphis In May Olympic Triathlon and the Memphis in May Triathlon Weekend.

    Relay teams are welcome; Female, Male and Mixed. 2 and 3 person teams.
