This event is born from years of competing in meets across the country and inspired by the strong tradition of distance-focused track events right here in Wisconsin. Our goal is simple (and slightly obsessive): to create a meet centered around the mile.

Athletes of all ages and abilities are welcome, from K–12 runners to collegiates, pros, and masters. Events will range from a fun 400 meters for our youngest competitors to the featured one-mile race, covering just over four laps around Hatchet Field on a recently renovated track surface inside a completely updated stadium. Yes, it’s technically more than four laps. No, we didn’t do the math wrong. Welcome to track.

While the competition is expected to be intense, the atmosphere will stay fun and relaxed. Expect fast races, loud cheers, questionable pacing decisions, and that unique mix of pain and joy only distance runners truly understand. The vibe will stay light, positive, and welcoming for athletes, spectators, and anyone who wandered in and asked, “Wait… you only run one mile?”

    Supporting Hatchet Distance Running

In addition to great racing, the Hatchet Mid-Summer Mile serves a bigger purpose. Proceeds from the event directly support the distance runners of the Hatchet cross country and track programs. Funds raised will help provide new uniforms and warmups (because mismatched gear is not rizz worthy), upgraded training and racing equipment, and resources to host higher-quality home meets. That means flags that are actually yellow, course markings that are straight (and not suspiciously crooked), and equipment that makes it look like we knew what we were doing when we set everything up.

In other words, the opportunity for growth is endless, and we just want to give our student-athletes the best experience possible while also providing competition for the athletes of all kinds especially from right here in the Northwoods.

A lot more information is coming soon, including the event schedule, sponsors, registration details, shirts, awards, and maybe food trucks or other vendors to reward you after you’ve earned it. For now, be sure to mark your calendars:

The Lake Lucerne Advancement Association Community Support Committee’s Third Annual 5K-ish Run/Walk will be on Saturday, July 26, 2025.

This year's charity, Crandon Area Rescue, is a non-profit squad that serves approximately 435 square miles, including Argonne, Crandon, Hiles, Lincoln, Nashville townships, and the City of Crandon. With four ambulances and around 20 active responders, they provide essential emergency care when needed.

There is no registration fee, however a suggested donation amount of $35 requested per racer. If you would prefer to donate a different amount, you are welcome to do so.

Over the past three years, this event has raised over $10,500 in direct donations from the race! In addition, we know that community and individual contributions inspired by this event have addedmore than $5,000 in extra donations to Crandon Area Rescue. That’s a huge impact!

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us this year—and to those who couldn’t attend but still donated to this great cause.

The Lakeland Rotary's Annual Rump Roast Run in beautiful, Minocqua WI goes back to our roots so to speak...both the 5k and 10k courses will begin again in downtown Minocqua and finish at the trestle at the entrance to the Bearskin State Trail. . The course hugs the shore of beautiful Lake Minocqua and both courses give way to wooded lanes that lead eventually to the Bearskin Trail. A children's 1-mile race rounds out the events and an awards ceremony caps off the morning with cow bells for the winners and a large beef roast(s) for the top male and female finishers in each race.
