Welcome to Sacfit's Beginning Half Marathon & General Fitness Training Program!

Let's Get Moving for the New Year!

With each new year comes the opportunity to start (or restart!) any number of goals to enrich our lives and move ourselves in a positive and fruitful direction. Fitness tends to be one of the most enduring goals of the New Year season. As does starting or renewing connection, companionship, and friendship.

At Sacfit, we meld fitness with fun and friendship to create a rewarding, inspirational, and successful training program unlike any other in the region.

No Training Alone

Since our start in 2006, Sacfit has committed to a training philosophy that incorporates community and social interaction as part of its approach toward fitness training. The Sacfit "family," as many refer to the team, provides a supportive and socially vibrant environment that serves to strengthen personal accountability and motivate consistent workout attendance, the sum of which ultimately contributes to successful athletic achievement.

We animate this aspect of our training philosophy throughout your entire workout experience by providing coaches and pace groups that train with you for every mile - each and every week. In this way, the bonding through shared experience builds life-long friends and keeps the fun going from workout start to finish.

Results You Can Count On

Looking to run or walk a 5K or 10K? Is a half marathon on your bucket list? Or are you wanting to just get into shape. Whatever goals you have, Sacfit has a beginning training program to get you to the goals you've set.

So no matter what your fitness goal or bucket list race, we have a program and supportive team just for you! See below for additional program features and information.

Program Details:

Our 16-week General Fitness training program is broken up into weekly segments, each segment consisting of three mid-week workouts (Mon, Tues, and Thurs) and a Saturday morning long workout.

  • Monday is a timed active recovery workout of shorter duration.

  • Tuesday is a timed moderate intensity workout or optional track, hill repeat, or stair-lunge workout.

  • Thursday is a moderate mileage workout.

  • Saturday morning workouts are the longest of the week where the entire team and coaching staff meet at the same location. This workout includes coach-led pace groups consisting of about 10-15 teammates, post-workout strength and stretching stations, and an occasional raffle!

Our 2026 Winter/Spring Beginning Half Marathon & General Fitness Program not only improves your fitness, but also provides an opportunity for beginning runners and walkers to consider participation in various 5K and 10K running and walking events during the season, including the Parkway 5K.

For the more ambitious beginning and intermediate runners and walkers, a 5K or 10K may be old hat, so there are opportunities to consider longer distances, including the Parkway Half Marathon, for which you receive a deep discount to the entry fee as a Sacfit team member!

Finally, all Sacfit training programs offer flexibility because you never know what the future holds! Should you decide you need to adjust your goal later in the season, you can switch to any other Sacfit training program at no additional cost!

Program Features and Amenities

Sacfit provides a comprehensive training experience that extends beyond a workout schedule and half marathon training information. In keeping with our community and social-based atmosphere, Sacfit incorporates additional amenities as part of your half marathon training experience, including:

  • Sacfit App which gives you access to your training schedule from your phone or computer.

  • Private social media group to connect with teammates that is NOT tied to Facebook or any other platform, etc.

  • Voice-navigation running routes you can download onto your phone or apple watch

  • VIP race-day lounges for the Parkway Half Marathon and 5K

  • Deep discount entry fee for the Parkway Half Marathon and 5K

  • Periodic raffles at the Saturday workouts

  • Free picnic breakfast for you and your family or significant other

  • Discounts at select Fleet Feet stores

Coach-led Pace Groups

To help you further attain your goal and enhance your workout experience, our staff of over 40 experienced and knowledgeable coaches actually train with you - something no other training group offers. By training with you every mile, your coach is better able to assess and advise you of your running or walking form and technique, breathing, and hydration and nutrition intake, when it counts - during your workout.

No Training Alone

Half Marathon training includes weekend workouts that can extend several hours (If you decide to train for a half marathon). At Sacfit, we believe that keeping an athlete sharp, focused, and committed to completing those long workouts includes training as a group - not just meeting together prior to the workout, but training as a group for the entire workout.

Workout companions help each other push through the long workouts and keep accountability in showing up for the workouts each and every week. Sacfit is the only training group that ensures you have training partners each and every week throughout the entire training program - not just the first few weeks.

Post-workout Strength and Stretching

To complete the triad of fitness, we add Strength and Stretching to your Aerobics. This includes providing strength and stretching stations and equipment after you complete your long workout. We also have supervised yoga and other stretching discipline and strength sessions.

Aid Stations - Second to None

Part of any safe and sensible training program includes aid stations for the longer workouts. Sacfit aid stations are famous along the Parkway and a welcome respite to our longer workouts. We offer a plethora of choices to satiate any palate of special food-diet requirement. And we ALWAYS have ice-chilled water and Gatorade to keep you cool, and ice to fill your water bottles. We also have first-aid kits at every station to keep you safe and moving forward.

This annual community race event has achieved many milestones over the past 19 years, including the distinction as the first half marathon along the American River Parkway and the first Spring-time half marathon in the Sacramento region.

Also, it was the first and, for nearly a decade, the ONLY race event to donate 100% of its proceeds to benefit the American River Parkway. Our latest milestone: to date, we have donated over $400,000 in proceeds!

These donations have helped fund Parkway enhancements such as habitat restoration, invasive plant removal, trash clean up, kids’ interactive nature trails, and our latest project - four new drinking fountain installations to date, with a fifth for this Spring 2026!

But inasmuch as the Parkway Half serves as an important financial benefit to the Parkway, this race is mostly about getting outside and having fun with family and friends along our most beautiful local recreational treasure.

And with the scenic course, friendly volunteers, talented musicians, and a bag pipe processional to start the morning, it's a great way to celebrate a day on the Parkway.

Come on out for the race, stay for the party, and support your Parkway along the way!

    CANCELLATION POLICY

Per the running industry policy, all entry fees are non-refundable. Once we receive and accept your entry, you will not receive a refund if you cannot participate.

But, not per the running industry policy, entries are transferable! All you need to do is go into your account and follow the prompts and/or buttons to transfer your entry to another friend or family member. There is a small transfer fee, but better than no option at all!

This policy applies to all entrants and is in effect whether you are injured, have an unexpected family/business emergency, have a medical emergency, etc.

    Registration and Processing Fees

Pursuant to California Senate Bill 478 - Fee Transparency Law, all our listed event registration fees also include Race Roster processing fees and charges. Race Roster processing fees are a separate charge from the Parkway Registration Entry Fee, but are bundled together as a total fee. This statement, provided pursuant to the transparency law, is effective July 1, 2024

The Fair Oaks Chicken Run is a beloved Fair Oaks tradition—and after 44 years, it still hasn’t gotten any easier. The 5-mile Chicken Run winds through the charming Old Fair Oaks neighborhood before heading out on a keyhole loop in Sailor Bar. The course is a true hybrid—half paved road, half dirt trail—and features the legendary four hills: Grand Daddy Hill, Hernia Hill, The Beast, and Last Gasp. The 2-mile Rooster Ramble Run/Walk stays on paved roads through Old Fair Oaks, making it perfect for runners, walkers, and families.
